Bayside Blazers draw first blood against Pure Playaz

DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- Defending champions Bayside Blazers have taken pole position in the Championships Series of the 2019 Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed National Basketball League.

After disposing of Skillful Ballers on Saturday, November 16, 2019 to win the series 2-1 and advance to the championships, Bayside Blazers took their winning momentum to Game One of the best of 3 championships series against Pure Playaz at the Save the Seed Energy Center in Duff’s Bottom, Tortola, on Sunday, November 17, 2019.

Bayside Blazers won 87-78.

Phillip & Donato spearhead Bayside Blazers

Bayside Blazers virtually won the game in the second quarter of the game as they led 24-20 at the first quarter and 58-37 at the half, having outscored Pure Playaz 34-17 in the second quarter.

Pure Playaz had a better showing in the second half of the game, outscoring their opponents 23-18 in the third quarter and 18-11 in the fourth but it was not enough to pull off a come from behind win against the defending champs.

Tavon J. Phillip (21 pts, 13 rebounds) and Hansen S. Donato (21 pts, 10 rebounds, 6 assists) combined to put 42 points on the board and grabbed 23 rebounds for Bayside Blazers.

The top scorer from the night before, Aubrey S. Daniel, supported with 16 points while Travis A. Isaac netted 13.

Leading the fight for Pure Playaz was Khalid Gerald, who had a game high 27 points and 14 rebounds.

Draft player Ray D. Victor had 21 points and Nicols Charles 19.

The 2019 championships is a rematch of last year when Bayside Blazers overcame Pure Playaz.

Bayside Blazers are now a game away from retaining the championship and will seek to put away Pure Playaz when Game 2 is contested on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 7:30pm at the Save the Seed Energy Centre.

    Taught games was suppose to finish by Wednesday but it’s clear that Sir **** had a hand in this delay to get his overseas players back in time to finish. This league is just getting worst everything is in favor of Bayside Blazers. Come on Playaz get your team together we wind you show them what local boys can do.

    Boom!.. Just how I say it! Douron was the best pick up for Blazers he is unstoppable once he's zoned in! And like I said before his aggressive style of play will dominate and frustrate Pure playaz!
