ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Bayside Blazers bounced back from last week’s loss to the Kings by demolishing the Hawks, 82-71, as the BVI Basketball Federation continued its 40th Anniversary National League at the Multi Purpose Sports Complex on Sunday May 25, 2014.

The Blazers who had been down for much of the game, albeit only by narrow margins suddenly sprung into life at the start of the 4th quarter to blow the game wide open and romp to victory in just their second competitive game since being formed.

Allison C. Leonard hit a two pointer to start 4 minutes of madness, in front of a pretty good crowd considering the attraction of the Poker Run over on Virgin Gorda, and gave the Blazers a 53-50 advantage.

Carlisle E. France then added another two before the Hawks responded with a basket from downtown and then the turning point came with Dominic Ward getting a Technical which ended his involvement.

Cavin K. Smith hit 3 of the 4 Free Throws to make it 58-53, Sandy E. Nadal also hit 1 of 2 from a visit to the charity stripe and France, Leonard and Nadal all added further scores to make it 65-55 to the Blazers, who suddenly realized the game was theirs.

The lead got as big as 13 points with Mikey S. Joseph joining in the scoring frenzy before Nigel Carey, Diondre Simmons and Kyle Abraham launched a mini Hawks revival, but it was short lived and fittingly Nadal notched the final 5 points with a combination of free throws and a long range effort as the buzzer went.

The Blazers had kept the game close and benefitted from some wayward Hawks shooting, despite looking a little disorganized defensively during the first half and reached the locker room down by 5 at 35-30.

However whatever was said by Coach “P” (Rhennie O. Phipps) and his Assistant, Jason A. Edwin, during the break seemed to work, if not right away.

A scrappy start to the 3rd quarter saw just 5 points added by Nadal to the scores in 3 minutes and by half way through only 6 points had been scored by each team.

However the Blazers hung in there getting as close as one and trailing by as many as nine despite an 8-1 run from Leonard, Joseph and Nadal that was just a prelude to the moments of mayhem and madness in the 4th.

Nadal top scored with 29 points, Carlisle France had 15 points with 8 rebounds, Leonard 13 points and 8 rebounds, Joseph 12 points and 10 rebounds and Cavin Smith 11 points 9 rebounds.

For the Hawks Kyle Abraham finished with 20 points and 9 rebounds, Diondre Simmons 15 points and J’Kwon Frett 10 points and 5 rebounds.
