DUFFS BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- An electrifying start by the Bayside Blazers saw them record a third successive victory with a 97-80 win over the Splash Brothers on Sunday August 28, 2016 in the Hon Julian Fraser/Save the Seed Basketball League at the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duffs Bottom.

Franklyn L. Penn came into the side to replace Deon J. Edwin, but it was Dion M. Blyden and Mackenzie L. K. Baltimore who fired up the Blazers in the early exchanges as they both sunk long range efforts and then, after a 20-minute stoppage due to a power outage, it was Penn who got in on the three-point act to give the Blazers a double digit lead.

Some big defensive plays and another three pointer gave the Blazers an eighteen-point lead at the end of the first period.

The second quarter began with a behind the back pass from Penn to Blyden on a fast break and an exchange of three’s between Shamoii A. Dagou and Blyden punctuated another scintillating passing move, with Blyden fouled in the process of scoring and making no mistake from the free throw line.

Stung into action, the Splash Brothers hit back with some lightning fast moves, but their shooting radar was off, as it was for most of the night and the timely re-appearance of Dextroy D. Manswell gave the Blazers defensive stability.

At half time the score line was 61-30 to the Blazers.

Splash Brothers regroup

The Splash Brothers regrouped after the break and actually put some pressure on the Blazers, outscoring their opponents 30-13, to put some life back into the game, but once again thoughts of pulling off an amazing comeback were dulled by a lack of shooting composure.

In the final two periods the Brothers had a 28% success rate with scoring attempts, with the Blazers slightly behind at just a 24% conversion rate. The Blazers hit one more three pointer, 11, than the Brothers, who had 29 visits to the Free Throw line, converting 18, whilst the Blazers went 5 from 10.

The score that mattered, though, a 16 -point victory for the Blazers.

Blyden finished with 26 points and 11 rebounds, Tavon J. Phillip 20 points 5 rebounds, Jevon K. Serrant 13 points, Penn also 13 and Manswell picked off 13 rebounds.

For the Brothers, Dagou hit 26 points with 5 steals, Ashfield Frett notched 20 points and 8 rebounds, Jhameley Benjamin 16, Steve E. Parillon grabbed 12 rebounds and Karvin Robin 8 rebounds and 7 steals.
