ROSEAU, Dominica- Needing to win by two clear goals after losing the “home” leg to Dominica, 3-2, the BVI were held goalless in the away leg at Windsor Park, Roseau, of the first round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers and bowed out of the competition on Sunday evening, March 29, 2015.

The BVI started brightly and took full advantage of the space offered by the Dominica side that preferred to sit back and wait out the opening exchanges.

With a revamped line-up, including switching James Shearman to right back and inserting Trevor Peters out wide on the right, the hosts were nearly made to pay for their hesitancy, firstly by Matthew Bell and then Karl Espley, who both saw half chances go begging.

Ever dangerous on the break, Dominica sounded alarm bells, with Julian Wade going close and Daniel Barker producing a finger tip save of the match to keep BVI hopes alive.

Early in the second half, with the game still in the balance, Peters just failed to get a touch ahead of the last defender, with the goal beckoning. Andy Davis also saw a shot scream just wide and Epsley also saw his effort go wide.

However, with the hosts now introducing Randolph Peltier, much to the crowd’s delight, the BVI were pushed back and had to be thankful for more fine saves from Barker, including a couple of one on ones with Peltier, a diving block to deny Wade and also another fine save from Sidney Lockhart.

On the night, a stalemate was a fair result and represented a tremendous performance from the BVI team.

Coach Avondale Williams, whilst regretting the defensive errors that cost his team dear in the first leg, noted that he was proud of his team. “It was very difficult to break down their defense, but we battled hard, created a few good chances, but were unable to convert them.

“Daniel Barker was very impressive and kept us in the game, especially as we pushed forward in the latter stages of the game. To go out of the competition is a bitter pill to swallow, but with the performance I believe we are on the right track to only get better and better as a team.”

Dominica’s Coach, Shane Marshall commented that his team grew into the game especially in the second half.  “We started slowly, but in the second half began to knock the ball around, looked comfortable and had many shots on goal. Before we play Canada, we have to go back to the drawing board and work on our first touches, our crosses and our finishing.”

The locals too busy eating panche and Scatos, they don't have what it takes to represent their own country. Be happy these men choose to represent a territory that doesn't even embrace them or appreciate their efforts.

What are you insinuating about Panache and Scatos in such derogatory tones? And what are you talking about that they don't have what it takes. Dude didn't you notice those who represented as you say did not win? You should ask them if they have what it takes.

I stand firmly behind my comments. BVI Landers are too ungrateful. Even though these guys didn't bring home the victory at least they still tried to represent the BVI. I'm sure if they were victorious we would all be signing a different tune right now. I don't see anyone saying Melanie Amaro shouldn't be an ambassador for the BVI. Last time I checked she's not from here. I'm happy that these men are out there doing a sport that they love and that in the process the BVI is getting recognized in other countries because of them. Maybe as they'll put us on the map some day, and then BVI landers will finally be interesting in something other "Panche" and "Scatos". :-p

Continue the hard work BVI one day you will reach far it only needs some faith and perseverance.Anyway keep working hard. With immigration , many outsiders as we say tends to play for the country they make or sometimes call home check the USA team and other teams for instance and see where most of the players are from. So let's stop talking about who are outsiders and insiders on the team and just support them they do need our support financially and otherwise

What you should be talking about is how shameful the BVI Government look when the international news reporting that the BVI don't have a field for their team to play on. Dominica is considered the poorest Caribbean Island- look at their stadium - The team had to practice on a small softball field then had to represent us on a large football field. No help with the players who were born here and couldn't get a passport! Good Job guys!! Despite the adversaries you represented us well. Even the Canadians who we would have been meeting in the next round rated us as a good team on Canada national tv station.

It amazes me how some BVIslanders could be so ignorant and short sighted to be up on this sight making negative comments about stop playing the sport until BVIslanders are representing the territory. Let me educate you and open your mind to some simple facts. Soccer is the fastest growing sport in the BVI. Every year the BVIFA pumps tens of thousands of dollars in the most important resource of this territory which in case you don't know is our youths. These same youth are having opportunities to get a college education. Unfortunately some of these youth were born in the BVI to non BVI parents and althoung they have a belongers card they are not eligible to play in a FIFA game without a passport. Despite efforts from the BVIFA the authorities refused to assist in giving these youths a chance to represent the territory.I am aware that the authorities can put measures in place to ensure that these players be given a passport so they can participate, be it temporary or with restrictions. FIFA is investing in a multi million dollar stadium in East End which would enhance that community and generate much need commerce in the area. Think about the vendors, bars, restaurants and more importantly the hotels and guess houses when visiting teams come to play. Yet the government is not interested in sports. In many other caribbean islands sports tourism is a big thing. What would FIFA said or done if the BVIFA could not field a team for this tournament? If those players didnt make themselves available to play for this territory simply because the authorities refuse to contribute to getting the proper documentation for the born here to play.I am sure that the stadium project would have came to a halt. FiFA is investing into the territory and the government is simply frustrating the process by turning a blind eye to a very important matter. Antigua and Barbuda St. Kitts and Nevis and Jamaica their national team is comprised of predominantly players who were born in Britain to parents of their respective island most of them have never been to the carribean yet the authourity saw the importance of having them represent their islands grants them passports within three month but in the BVI persons who were born here cannot get a passport to represent the island of their birth SMH. Shame on you BVI Authorities

some of you fools talking about "where the locals?", meanwhile much locales here don't want to play it but then when somebody else your another country playing for the BVI, y'all wanna complain... at least people were able to represent our country, why don't you recruit young men from the BVI to play for our country? smh.

I swear BVISLANDERS alone can't be so dumb in order for one to represent the bvi u must hold a valid British Virgin Islands passport and there is no exception.. And more over it had players who was on the trip and couldn't play because they didn't meet the requirements, so do you all researches before all you run come on here to blog
