ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Tortola’s Legs lifted the Leeward Islands Basketball Championship after defeating hosts Antigua & Barbuda’s Wadadli Bulldogs in the final 75-72 on Sunday December 15, 2013.

Both the Tortola and Antigua teams had dominated the early games in the Leeward Islands Invitational Basketball Championship and duly met in the final of the five-team round-robin event at the JSC Sports Complex in Antigua last night.

Half time saw Tortola down by 3 but they recovered to seal the Championship.

The Antiguans crushed Montserrat 101-57 in their opening encounter with Keroi Lee and Xavier “X-Man” Meade each scoring 19 points for the victors. Kareem Edwards scored 14 points and Neville Martin chipped in with 12 points for the home side.

Nickon Weekes led Montserrat with a game-high 30 points.

Antigua & Barbuda then romped to a 95-50 win over Angulla. Mario “Axel” Davis had 17 points, Lee scored 15, Chaz Samuel produced 14 points and Vivian “Boast” Destin chipped in with 13 points for the Bulldogs.

Javille Brooks converted 11 points for Anguilla. The Antiguans notched up their third win by coasting to a 94-51 victory over Barbuda.

Samuel topscored with 22 points, Davis had 12 points and Destin contributed 11 points. Gregory Thomas sank 13 points for Barbuda.

Ray Victor scored 26 points and Jasin Edwin sank 22 points as Tortola made a winning start to their campaign by pulling off an 80-68 victory over Barbuda. Cohen Desouza scored 23 points for Barbuda.

Tortola then crushed Montserrat 92-59. Edward converted 19 points, Kennedy Bass had 16 points, Victor scored 15 and Anton James chipped in with 12 points for the winners. Hollren Bobb produced 23 points and Weekes 15 points for Montserrat.

Bass then shot a game-high 32 points as Tortola prevailed 91-79 over Anguilla. Victor sank 20 points, Edwin scored 14 and Lennox Caines 12 points for the victors.

Rick Browne led Anguilla with 22 points, Jason Hodge sank 20, Daury Herbert scored 16 and Incia Brooks had 10 points.

Browne also scored 17 points as Anguilla won their first game of the tournament by beating Barbuda 70-52. Desouza shot a game-high 24 points for Barbuda.

      You all need to stop this stupidness about where people from. The 3 featured players are persons whose names are not indigenous to BVI, but who cares; they went to represent the BVI and that's all that matters. Who cares who the Minister was backing in this tournament. Should he forget where he came from? Nonsense. We are all one people, regardless to colour, creed or race. Let us stop fighting against each other.
