ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Vikings Cricket Club has a new president in Bashir Hidar following the club’s Annual General Meeting and Elections recently.

Hidar, an active member of the team, replaces Sonny Sahadeo who did not contest the position.

The new President will receive support from Vice-President Ramkissoon Mangal, Treasurer/Vice-Captain Richard Fredericks, Secretary Lilchand Mangal and Team Manager Tony Bhagwandas.

The Captaincy will continue to be the responsibility of Vaden Walker. The Public Relations Officer is Reuben Stoby.

According to Hidar, his aim as President is to see the club “move forward to the next level. We have been second best in the last two tournaments and we are confident with this new executive that we will motivate the team to cross the hurdle to win championships.”

Hidar added that the aim of the club is to attract more youth players and to help develop the game in the Virgin Islands.

Team Manager Mr Tony Bhagwandas also spoke about getting more youth involved in the sport. He said the club already has a few talented young players but wishes to see more come to the club. “We want to get more youth involve, to elevate the club to a higher level and to produce players for the national level as well as regional.”

Vikings Cricket Club is currently preparing for a Digicel-sponsored 20/20 cricket tournament scheduled to bowl off at the Greenland Field on May 5, 2013.
