A variety of delectable cuisine that was available for consumption at a beachside setting, with a cool and soothing evening breeze, music, and a perfect atmosphere for socialising, made the Barefoot Gourmet Soiree at the Peter Island Resort and Spa on November 14, 2015 an elegant and enchanting experience. DEAD MAN’S BAY, Peter Island, VI- Paying attention to every minute detail during preparation and presentation, local and international chefs made it known from their actions that every dish was prepared with love and care. Some chefs were busier than others, though, as their scrumptious cuisine just had to be tried a second and even third time.

The event was held as part of the 2015 BVI Food Fete and definitely would be one of the main highlights of the celebrations and a memorable one for those who made the trip to Peter Island to have their appetites whetted just enough for the other events, including the Taste of Virgin Gorda on November 21 and the Taste of Tortola on November 22, 2015 as well as the much anticipated 3rd annual Anegada Lobster Festival from November 28-29, 2015.

No doubt German Chef Bastian Falkenroth’s preparation of Amberjack was a hit among many as persons just could not get enough of his preparation, which made it an early night for him as the high demands soon meant he was out of stock.

The line was always long but persons didn’t mind the wait as they just had to get a taste of what Chef Antonio Soriano of Argentina was offering. His preparation of raw and cooked scallops, cauliflower, vanilla, and chocolate puree and papaya criolla sauce, Yerba Mate cured rib eye, corn in every way, and mango chimichurri was worth the wait.

Other chefs that made for an elegant and tasty evening were Chef Davide Pugliese of Italy; Chef Kristin Sollenne, a rising culinary star and Food Network Judge in the United States of America. Chef Kristen made it known that it was the first time for her in the Virgin Islands and it was definitely not going to be the last; Chef Todd Howard, who is the new Executive Chef at Peter Island Resort and Spa; popular local Pastry Chef Gorvey A. Henry, who is a culinary artisan and owner of Gorvey Henry Cakes; and Pastry Chef/Chocolatier Erika Dupree-Cline, the wife of top local chef Neil Cline.

Chef Gorvey had coffee, passion fruit, key lime pie, and fruit eclairs for dessert, which he said were prepared by his students and that he thought they did an amazing job. The response from the crowd was a clear indication of agreement.

It was then time to kick off the shoes and slippers and go barefoot in the sand to live band music, which brought the perfect end to the evening.

Barefoot Gourmet Soiree was sponsored by LIAT, Road Town Wholesale, CCT Global Communications, The Moorings, Star Shipping, and Peter Island Resort and Spa.

Meanwhile, the BVI Tourist Board has announced that funds raised from Barefoot Gourmet Soiree will be used towards a grant for a student interested in pursuing tourism and hospitality.

What a beautiful event and so delicious. Sharon, you hit the jack pot with your newly appointed Events Manager. We look forward to more. Congrats to you and your team at the Board.

The event was the same as before just different chefs. No major improvements.

You clearly were not at the event last year or you weren't in attendance this year and basically just on here to tear down. Go take a hike. It was one amazing night.

I was at all 3 events. Yes the events were very good. My point is that the new events manager made no significant difference. but the event is very cool. A bit pricey but nice.

self toots you sound like you ah inside hater man. If this event happened last year, it certainly got no press and some of that could be because the media didn't find it worthy last year. I wasn't at this event, but based on above, it seems professionally executed; something the BVI Tourist Board is not used to doing so it certainly seem like there is some sort of improvements happening over there. I had the pleasure of being at your launch event and that too seemed well organized. If you ask me, this is the first the Tourist Board events are looking like anything worthy of attendance. So please lift up your colleague, if you are indeed an inside hater instead of pulling doing. A lot could happen when you work together. Congrats to Ms. Flax-Mars and her team. This was a shining event for them and the Premier's Office. I think we will continue to see great things in this area.
