BRIDGETOWN, Barbados - The Government of Barbados has cautioned residents against the abuse of social media to spread false and malicious information designed to mislead the public.

This warning comes in response to the latest example of such abuse which appeared in the form of a viral WhatsApp message yesterday.

The false and very offensive message was created to appear as if it had come from the Barbados Government Information Service.

The message misinformed the population about Government’s workplace policy in respect of Covid-19.

This is too serious a matter and the Government has warned that it will report to the Police this and other similar offences under the Computer Misuse Act, to stamp out this practice.

The Government urges persons to desist from such actions, adding that it strongly condemns this reckless behavior.
