ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – When Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Mark H. Vanterpool took to the microphone to give brief remarks at the launching of the commemorative license plate for the 60th anniversary of Festival on Thursday June 19, 2014, he called for the acting Commissioner of Department of Motor Vehicles Mr Kye M. Rymer to be appointed to the position.

At the onset of his message to those present at the launching ceremony Hon Vanterpool said, “I want the Acting Commissioner to know that I know that he is in Hollywood now; he is an actor, acting Commissioner for a while, but we expect him to get off that list soon.”

He directed his appeal to those responsible saying, “so those who are responsible I want you to know that the Minister has given you that and we want to make sure that you do so, whether he may look like my son or not, and he may have conflict or whatever of interest, but I want to make sure that you know that the Ministry – Permanent Secretary and myself – strongly recommending that you get him off the acting and get him to be a real Commissioner so please.”

Rymer has confirmed with this news site that he has been acting in the position since July 2, 2013 following the moving on of the former Commissioner of DMV Ms Lorna Christopher, having been the Deputy Commissioner for quite some time.

Several persons who have requested not to be named endorsed the call made by the Honourable Minister. One such person stated, “I work for Government yes but I think sometimes we tend to hold our own people back and we cry when the people in the private sector treat us in a certain way.”

Another said that the prolonged delaying of appointing qualified persons in the government system is not isolated to Mr Rymer as there are many others on the waiting list. “This is something that they need to address seriously and urgently,” the man said.

Mark looking brownie points. It has not been a year since this chap has been acting....what about the Director of HR she has been acting for four years. Is confirmation based on connections and who you know or is it performance based?

I agree with Hon. Vanterpool wholeheartedly. In all my dealings with Mr. Rhymer he has been very professional and goes the extra mile to help his customers, unlike the other C......oner.

That little boy is not ready for that position, you go to his department and you need a day off to renew your license or registration. The Staff act like they don't even see you there. Poor customer services not a smile or a pleasant greet. Let the man and his staff clean their nasty attitude towards the customers because if it was not a must DMV will be empty whole year round. Mark get out more and see what they doing ppl.

@ Hmmmmm Well you are one of the few that need to take a day off to renew license or registration. When I went in April to renew my license I was in an out of there in less than an hour. so not sure what problems you
had. You just wanted a day off and that is the best excuse you could come up with.
