Antigua start Caribbean Cup with Draw against Haiti

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica, WI – Match day 2, Wednesday November 12, 2014, of the Men's Caribbean Cup was full of excitement as host Jamaica were held to a 1-1 draw by Martinique and Antigua & Barbuda came back from 2 goals down to draw with Haiti 2-2.

Man of the match was Molvin James of Antigua as in the day’s opening encounter of Group B Antigua faced qualifying favourites Haiti. The match started with Haiti drawing first blood when a mistake at back let in Jean Alcenat in the 23' who calmly slotted home Haiti's first goal of the match.

Things began to get worst for the Bennaboys as Haiti doubled the lead when Kervens Belfort made it 2 - 0 in the 36 minute.

The first half would end in Haiti's favour at 2-0.

The Second half started in much different fashion as Antigua pulled a goal back as Myles Weston scored in the to make it 2-1. Antigua would then level the score line in the after Peter Byers headed home a crossed ball to make it 2-2 as both teams would share points in their opening match.

Host nation Jamaica then opened their tournament with a 1-1 draw with Martinique in the feature match on day 2.

The Reggae Boyz faced tough opposition in Martinique but opened scoring early as Darren Mattocks tapped in a goal mouth scramble as the host took an early lead to make it 1-0.

Jamaica put in a dominate display throughout the first half but it was just before the break that Martinique equalized as Yoann Arquin scored from a route one long ball to make it 1-1 at halftime.

During the second half the match was very open as both teams found the back of the net but some close offside decisions made the score line remain 1-1 after full time.

In the first day of the Men's Caribbean Cup Trinidad and Tobago grabbed victory in a 5 goal thriller with Curacao and French Guiana steals point from Cuba.

Action started at 5:30 PM as the Montego Bay sports complex witnessed Trinidad overcoming Curacao in a hard fought win. Goal scoring began in the 18th minute as Curacao took a shock lead against the run of play as Rihairo Meulens latched on to a through pass deep in Trinidad's half and slipped the ball around Jan Williams to make it 1-0.

Celebrations would be short for Curacao as they gave up a penalty in the 26th minute as Kenwyne Jones was fouled in the Box. The Cardiff City man was very calm and slotted home his first of the night to make it 1-1.

Trinidad would add their second of the first half in the 38 minute as a mistake from the back allowed Jones to score his second goal of the match making it 2-1 at the end of the first half.

In the second half it was Curacao scoring once again in the 48th as Gianluca Maria made it 2-2. But moments after it was Kevin Molino who scored in the 53rd to once again give the Soca Warriors a 3-2 lead and also victory.

Defending champions Cuba opened their campaign against qualifying hopefuls French Guiana in the feature match and it with late drama French Guiana stole a point by scoring deep into stoppage time as they held Cuba to a 1-1 draw.

Both teams began the match with much caution as one mistake could prove pivotal even in the first match of the competition as both teams went into the first half scoreless.

Cuba would open the scoring in the second half of Ariel Martinez got to a long pass after out pacing his defender, as he then chipped the ball over French Guiana's Goalkeeper to make it 1-0 in the 57th minute.

It looked like 3 points for the defending champions after they dominated much of the match in the second half.

But it was deep into stoppage time that French Guiana equalized when Mickael Solvi broke Cuban hearts in the 93rd minute which ended the match 1-1.

Tomorrow November 14, 2014 the action continues as Group A returns with Trinidad & Tobago versus French Guiana at 5:30PM (local time), then Cuba faces Curacao in the feature encounter at 8PM.
