Another radio talk show host condemns Hon Walwyn’s actions
Hon Fraser was listed on the programme to speak in his capacity of Opposition Leader but was kicked off on the evening of the opening ceremony, July 25 2016, by Hon Walwyn, who has since said the Director of Culture Luce Hodge-Smith had erred in having Hon Fraser slated to speak.
“Here is a man who was invited to speak then literally abused by the Minister for Education. My people, be careful. Look what is happening to us. We cannot sit down and take these things,” Mr Maduro said on the EGM Show on Zrod 103.7 FM on July 28, 2016.
Further, Hon Walwyn had said it was not customary for the Leader of the Opposition to speak at the opening of Festival and that Hon Fraser should have known this and declined the invitation.
“My people do not be led away by such ignorance. The Festival is celebrating the freedom of every man and every man has a right to speak. But where ignorance rules it is folly to be wise,” Mr Maduro said in response to Hon Walwyn’s explanation.
Terrible mistake
Another talk show host, Mr Doug Wheatley had also expressed his disappointment with Hon Walwyn.
Speaking on his weekly show, Speak out BVI aired on July 26, 2016 on ZBVI 780 AM, Mr Wheatley said the Leader of the Opposition is the Leader of the Opposition today but tomorrow he could be the Premier and therefore one should not treat the Leader of the Opposition in such a manner.
“Even if a mistake had been made, all you had to do was allow the Leader of the Opposition to come as he was invited and to give his speech and no one would have been the wiser. The public out there listening would not have known that there was something amiss.
“But to turn him back and to not allow him to give a speech was very very much out of place, and I think the Honourable Minister made a terrible mistake in not allowing the Honourable Leader of the Opposition to speak as he was intended to.”
Mr Wheatley said he hopes a lesson is learnt from that fiasco and that it is never repeated, noting that persons in leadership positions must have the wisdom and understanding to deal with certain situations so that they are not escalated.

Let the bald headed fool tek that in he r@$$ he is to darm arrogant
But really let’s use some sense what could Minister Walwyn lose by letting Hon. Fraser speak? It seems to me that there was nothing to be lost on the side of Minister Walwyn by letting the opposition speak, in fact, he would have gained respect by the public for trying to show that he as a Minister of Education and Culture was bigger than pettiness and was actually trying to move towards harmony and peace within a divided nation.
Now you and Ms. Parson trying to say that if you were Hon. Fraser that you would feel good being invited to speak and in the last minute while you were on your way to the festival they cancelled on you and the only reason for the cancellation was the Minister didn’t want to see you, and the only apology would be giving on facebook and not in person or at the festival.
If that is your idea of respect then you still need to learn about manners and proper etiquette
