ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- It was on March 11, 2016 our newsroom reported that a paved area in the $82.9M Tortola Pier Park on Wickham’s Cay I had sunk reportedly under the weight of a forklift. Just over a week after our newsroom is reporting that another infrastructure seems to have failed.

It was brought to our attention today March 23, 2016 by our Team of Reporters that an area on Waterfront Drive has sunk.

Virgin Islands News Online confirmed the reports by checking out the area in question and noticed that indeed there was a depression in the middle of the road in front of Leroy’s Barber Shop. The area has since been marked with a traffic barrel.

It is not clear what has caused the sudden depression in that area of the road and efforts to reach Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications and Works and officials of Public Works Department Anthony S. McMaster proved futile.

That area of the road was resurfaced shortly before the June 8, 2016 elections.

There continues to be concerns about the quality of work being done on roads in the territory, many of which were done prior to the last elections and which had to be redone shortly after.

When the Workers was leaving the road unpaved to get the dirt to settle....it was a disruption to the residents.....
NOW they rush the work to have the dirt covered without it getting properly settled ... its a problem .... and they still blaming Govt for it ....I'm just sorry I'm afiliated with these BVI people...

It's like PWD don't use compactors before they pave the roads. They only use them for a couple minutes to smooth out the asphalt.

@ bvi: good point!! the road by the round about in road town is also sinking: most of the sinking is a result of poor quality work

More than a joke. Shameful. Then again maybe we the public putting too much pressure on them to get the roads finish quickly. Take time and do it right.

Ground penetrating radar can be used to locate voids, buried service lines and conduit. It can also evaluate concrete deterioration, pavement and subgrade conditions, etc.

This equipment can save a great deal of time, money, effort and prevent possible disasters or loss of life due to insufficiently prepared road surfaces.

These geophysical radar units have a number of practical building applications (including bridge evaluation) and could be rented out for various projects in the private building sector as well as for government infrastructural use.

This is what happens when you don't invest in the right expertise. It is better to do things right the first time rather than keep patching up because you don't have the right skills to do it properly.
