ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Nearly two weeks after a three-vehicle collision left one person nursing minor injuries, Police were again called to the junction in the vicinity of the Road Town Police Station to investigate another fender bender.

The collision occurred around 8:45 p.m yesterday January 1, 2012. No one was injured.

Calls have long been made for traffic lights to be installed in that area which sees traffic flowing in four directions.

Meanwhile, information reaching Virgin Islands News Online suggests that a driver is likely to be charged shortly for the three vehicle smash-up that occurred in the vicinity of the Road Town Police Station on December 13, 2011.

According to sources, investigations are still ongoing but sooner than later the driver that allegedly caused the accident could be charged for reckless driving.

The accident resulted in one of the drivers sustaining minor injuries.

Agree leave the tree, make it the centre of a roundabout. Low cost solution.

Macnamara, I catch wa you saying, but the area is too small for a round about, but...

... low coast and a great solution. Please Hon. Mark - do this for us quickly, just need 4 signs around the tree to say that it is a roundabout. If it doesn't work - well then you can look at other option. It doesn't need 4 traffic lights on poles. Just run a line between trees and buildings and get a hanging down traffic light in the center. Sure under 10K incl. installation. Simply changes the light between the intersections, low maintenance

Im sorry but if that tree is actually blocking the view of persons trying to look left for oncoming cars, also, the stop line is also behind the tree, so that makes it even more silly to have that tree there. The VI has an abundance of trees and there is no reason for this tree to remain so that more people have to get in accidents.

Stone Cold, do you have a fever??? If you are not from here, I know that you live here long enough to realize that that tree is not in obstruction of any, ANY, ANY, ANY motorist. Whatever direction you are coming from, everyone is able to see any vehicle coming from any direction. Most of the time any accident that happens in that area, is caused by road rage, people who cant drive or people who just dont want to exercise patience. LEAVE THE DOG GONE TREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Billy b I tend to agree with what you are saying. Of the photo provided of the two accidents, the tree is no where in sight. It just seem a case of people refusing to yield the right-of-way. If you want to get real, they do that at the light also. Have you eva notice traffic approaching the light and making a right turn toward Althea Scatliffe School??? Even when the light has turned red, sometimes motorists continue to make that right turn on the red light because they dont want to wait for their next turn and people waiting at the light to make a right to going into town have to force their way thru to stop the treasure isle traffic from forcing their way thru. So billy i don't know why they so itchy to get a light up at the police station. It makes no sense.

Plain and simple no lights please they back up traffic, check St Maarten they replaced they lights with small round abouts.. a round-about is best suited for that area.

my wife and i just got back from ft. lauderdale..what we observed there..espicially in the neiborhoods..was that they use the first come first go system..it worked very well for them..it s cheap and effective..not only there a that tree..but it can be use in many more places in town..with that system..there is no long line..every one gets a chance to go, and in turn..hon.mark...please check it out!!

Rock, you sound like this is the first time you been off this rock (Tortola), you aint telling Mark or nobody what they dont know. As far as I know, that has been the exact same method we have been using in that area from God knows when to now, so thank for your input, but what is your point???

The Rock it would be nice but we already have STOP! signs in the BVI but driver's don't obey the rules of the road here in the BVI. The one thing they need to introduce here is the points system on ur license and then you will see a change!!

billy b, we have not been doing that...when u get at that area..it's a free for all..it's not organize..and when there's a traffic warden..it makes things even worst..cause they does let...say 7-10 cars go one after the other..forcing everybody else to be still..u have not seen what we saw..i can bet my last dollar on that!

but Rock, the only reason the traffic wardens are there is to assist the school children!!!! Have you seen any wardens over the xmas vacation??? They let 7-10 cars pass thru when traffic is either backed up at the high school, or backed up at Althea Scatliffe School!!! That is what they are there to do. What sense does it make to let car thru to Althea Scatliffe when the traffic is backed up??? They utilize the free flowing traffic until the backed up traffic is freed!!! 9:00am and 1:00pm when the bell ring and all the students are in their classes, the traffic wardens crawl back in the station til 3:15pm.

By the way rock, Ft. Lauderdale was my home for the past 10 years. Me and my family lived on 56the Ave on Oakland Pk Blvd before closer to the sawgrass mall. So there, you lost your bet, Ft. Lauderdale of all places you cant tell me nothing about. All my five children were born in Broward General medical Center, and I was caring for a niece who attended Dillard High School located on Sunrise Blvd close to I-95, how's that bet going?????????????

well then u of all people should know that they dont use stop lights in the neighbourhood..first come first go..tell me it is not so..and tell me if that system dont work very well for them..i am listening!

I am not saying that this practice is not what occurs in US neighborhoods!!!! Where we disagree is the fact that WE DO practice the same thing here!!! It's more of a common sense practice than anything, but WE HERE IN THE BVI, don't like to exercise patience and common courtesy. Additionally, if many of these people don't even respect the traffic light as was stated by "true", you think they going to respect, the "first come first go system"?????? Go back and read wa "true" said. I totally agree with him/her.

Removing the tree is not the solution, some drivers are just plain out inconsiderate and refuse to give the right of way to other motorist. If the tree was the problem in all their stupidity, how is it that they have never colided with the tree? it is always with another vehivle. I am a driver and have encountered many inconsiderate drivers on the road, they would not stop to allow another driver out from an intersection, instead they apply more gas and block the other driver from coming out of the inter section. This will only cause government to install more street lights all over the place.
