ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The BVI Basketball Federation’s (BVIBF) National Summer League concluded on Wednesday August 23, 2017 at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex with wins for And One and the Nationals.

First up on what turned out to be the concluding night of Basketball, the Nationals beat the Bulldogs, 54-47, to win the Championship series 2-1.

Shauliqua Fahie was named as MVP after she scored 21 points and 12 rebounds. “I played well as the team Captain and kept everyone together. We ran the Bulldogs hard and they ran out of steam in the end.”

Other scorers of note were Mahkayla Pickering with 17 points, 4 rebounds and Keithreece Smith with 14 points, 2 rebounds and 3 steals.

For the Bulldogs, Darea Malone top scored with 16 points and 5 rebounds, Tafara Phillips added 11 points with 8 rebounds and Tamara Phillips finished with 7 points, 7 rebounds.

And One again!

And One duly repeated as Division ”B”  Champions with a decisive 68-60 victory over the Junior East Rockers, in game four, led by MVP Demoi Dagou, who scored 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals. “We had some players missing and thought the game would have been harder. Being MVP is nice, but it’s a team sport and I thank God for what I got. They had to chase the game and as they began to tire we finished them off.”

Ryan Richardson notched 12 points, Lestin Wiltshire finished with 10 points, 4 rebounds, Nixon Hamilton 8 points, 4 rebounds, Rakeel Jack 6 points, 4 rebounds and Shadim Rubaine 5 points.

For the Junior East Rockers, Shakeem Tyson had 17 points with 8 rebounds, Daunte Scatliffe also notched 17 points and Omar Walker finished with 7 points, 7 rebounds.

Federation Treasurer, Clayton O’Neal noted that despite some issues the League had been a good success “despite the weather and other setbacks it has been a successful league with two new Champions in the Mystics and Nationals, as well as the repeating And One. The Federation is now looking to get more youngsters involved in running the National League going forward, so more focus can be given to preparing National Teams and Programmes.
