ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Recognising and expressing deep appreciation for their invaluable service, teachers of the Althea Scatliffe Primary School (ASPS) were honoured by the school at a special assembly today, October 1, 2012.

The activity was part of Teachers Week, which is currently being observed by the school.

Appreciation was expressed through the presentation of floral tributes, recitation of a poem by PTA President, Mrs Taisha Maduro (the poem was written by Mrs Lillian Gumbs, a parent of a former student of the school) in addition to a beautiful gospel rendition by the Trinity Group. The flowers were presented by students.

The week-long schedule of activities, being jointly held by the BVI Teachers’ Union (BVITU) as well as the ASPS, culminates on Friday, October 5, 2012, which is designated World Teacher’s Day. Activities will include Math Olympics and Games Night on Tuesday, mini massages at the ASPS all day on Wednesday, ‘stress relief’ exercises on Thursday, as well as a Celebration Breakfast on Friday among other activities.

Principal of the school, Mrs Marietta Flax-Headley, explained that the proposed massage session involves teachers being treated to brief upper body massages by a volunteer parent, Ms Misty Maxwell, who happens to be a masseuse.

The roses distributed to the teachers were sponsored by Mr Michael Herbert while the Celebration Breakfast is being jointly sponsored by Messrs Lesmore Smith and Marvin Blyden.
