ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- His service as Chairman of the British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) Board, which began since March 1, 2009, will come to an end on October 31, 2013 for Mr Allan Parker.

Mr Parker has tendered his resignation to Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Mark H. Vanterpool.

In the letter exclusively obtained by Virgin Islands News Online moments ago dated October 2, 2013, Mr Parker told the Minister for Communications and Works, whose portfolio includes the BVIEC, that he has resigned effective October 31, 2013.

Yesterday October 2, 2013 Mr Parker during a meeting with his Board also informed them of the decision, according to this news site’s National Democratic Party (NDP) sources.

No reasons were given in the letter for the Chairman’s resignation. Notwithstanding, the streets are ripe with speculations over the decision, however, Mr Parker thanked the Minister for granting him the opportunity to serve.

It is unclear to date whether the Minister has accepted the resignation as he could not be reached for comments as of press time.

The Vice Chairman of the BVIEC Board is Ms Pearl Smith, a former employee of the organisation, who served in the capacity of Human Resources Manager/ Corporate Secretary.

According to this news site’s sources, both the Minister and Mr Parker have been in dialogue about Mr Parker’s possible resignation for months.

Second Resignation to rock Communications and Works Ministry

With the premature resignation of Mr Parker, this brings the second resignation submitted to the Communications and Works Minister in many months.

Last year, Marvin Blyden tendered his resignation as Chairman of the Taxi and Livery Commission with immediate effect to the same Minister over what he called political interference by the NDP Administration in the appointment of Dameon Percival as Director of the Taxi and Livery Commission.

They had recommended former At Large Candidate Elton Callwood for the post, but the Minister snubbed the Commission instead taking to Cabinet the name of Mr Percival, which was approved.

Both Blyden and Parker were first appointed under the former Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government of Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE.

If Mr. Parker carries through on the 31 October he will deserve the praise and gratitude of the nation and merit recognition for his own profile in courage.
