Background
According to reports which had reach Virgin Islands News Online, security officers at Her Majesty’s Prison were on high alert after an alleged “disturbing incident” at Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) on, December 13, 2013. The incident reportedly led to the arrest and removal of convicted murderer Allan Baptiste who is serving a life sentence.
Information was sketchy at the time but this news site was informed by sources close to the facility that HMP is on high alert as its management was forced to come together to devise urgent strategies to deal with what was described as an incident that can result in ‘major incidents’ in the holding facility.
Reliable sources had informed this news site that ever since being committed to life without parole, Mr Baptiste has allegedly been at the centre of several fracases at the facility.
“Last night they would have had serious bloodshed and the other things. This place is not properly secured and them men got plans, they got plans and what happen last night was only phase one. I can’t say much but they got to get on top of things in there and stop all the political talks,” said a concerned relative of one of the inmates at the time.
Contacted by Virgin Islands News Online, Police Information Officer Diane Drayton did not disclose a name but had said “one prisoner is in custody. No charges have been laid as yet.”
Security at HMP is an issue that continues to be of major concern for relatives of inmates as well as prison officers.
