ROAD TOWN, Tortola - Twenty-one (21) persons who had close contact with a positive COVID-19 case detected in St. Vincent and the Grenadines with links to the island of Jost van Dyke, have all returned negative after tests for the virus.

This was announced by Deputy Premier and Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) tonight, Friday, July 24, 2020, via a public COVID-19 address broadcasted live across radio, television and on social media.

21 close contacts return negative

"Seventeen (17) close contacts on Jost van Dyke, as well as four (4) on Tortola, were immediately quarantined and tested and all results returned negative for the virus that causes COVID-19," Hon Malone announced.

On Tuesday, July 21, 2020, Jost van Dyke moved into a seven-day lockdown for persons and vessels on a 24-hour basis as a result of possible virus exposure on the island.

Hon Malone said that as of Thursday, July 23, 2020, the VI national laboratory had tested a total of 1,253 persons for COVID-19 with 1,245 persons testing negative and eight (8) positive results.

"These results include 316 samples collected on Jost van Dyke; 20 on Tortola and 3 on Virgin Gorda between Tuesday the 21st and Thursday the 23rd of July, all of which have tested negative."

Tortola residents who travelled to JvD asked to get tested

He said today Friday, July 24, 2020, an additional 19 samples have been collected by health personnel on Jost van Dyke as part of the strategy to carry out testing with the goal of covering the remaining population.

In addition to 20 other samples on Tortola, the government is encouraging all persons who visited Jost van Dyke during the month of July to come forward for testing.

Those individuals can call a local medical hotline number at 852-7650, to set up an appointment.

Why should we sue the country? These tests are not confirmed in St. Vincent but in the same country where we send our samples. Each country's Health Minister gives the result they receive from that country where the samples were sent.

I've been seeing a lot of comments about St Vincent lying . Why look at it as a lie and not another country in the Caribbean that we all are part of giving you an heads up to tell you to check yourselves and make sure you don't have the virus walking around in detected in our streets. We as Caribbean people need to stop this division and on both sides of the coin, after all brothers and sisters, mother's and father's were divided and sold throughout the Caribbean during slavery like it or not Caribbean people are one

To God be the glory. That’s great news. Hon. Malone I hope you are being honest with the people of the Virgin Islands. Based on the Filipino widower’s interview it doesn’t appear that we were being told the truth. It looking like there were quite a bit of cover ups. So I pray that you are being honest in this situation. God bless these Virgin Islands.

I have known Hon. Malone for many years never known him to tell lies. However, I have been in the hospital on many occasions and find the staff very responsible when handling patience personal items. Too much smeering of our own and good people among us. All for the us dollar.

No one said the Honorable was a liar. However, the story the lady’s husband gave in his interview is quite different from what the Honorable said in his press conference. Don’t allow people to read and spell for you, ask yourself why would the hospital dispose of the wife’s cellular phone? That was wrong on their part. Furthermore it all depends on who is working at the hospital when one visits there. Sometimes the service is great and others it is horrible. Lots of people here in this place don’t care about the jobs they do. It is all about getting paid nothing else. We the people want our leaders to be honest with us in all circumstances. Just saying.

The story the husband gave is different to the one Hon. Malone gave. That does not mean we should take it for granted that the husband story is correct until proved.

If we are not apart of the Caribbean , when a hurricane is in the Carribean we should not prepare because it will not affect us. For your information the Carinbean region stretches from Bahamas in the north to Trinidad in the south. Check an atlas and you will see.
