Businessmen said that they are on the lookout for those who would now come to be knocking at their doors begging for vote, “All out new to this so he is more than welcomed, but people like O’Neal and the pack of them in government right now we setting for them. We does be having serious issues over here and we can’t get them to come we got to run to the newspaper, we don’t want them come knocking down we doors now they had three long years to come at intervals and they didn’t come we were left on our own like the step children.” Photo: VINO/File

SETTING POINT, Anegada, VI – “We looking for a person who could see the needs of the people and what the people of Anegada need, not just to say oh that’s my friend, I could get this, I could get that because that is what is going on a lot.”

This is according to one of several businessmen on the sister island of Anegada who are very optimistic that VIP candidate for the Ninth District Mr Elton ‘All Out’ Sprauve will whip his opponents.

Several prominent businessmen rapped with this news site yesterday May 4, 2015 while present on the island and shared their thoughts about the current state of governance in the territory, especially as it relates to the handing of matters regarding the livelihood of residents on the islands.

None of the businessmen wanted to be named at this time. “You wouldn’t understand the pressure we go through every time our names pop up in the newspaper, especially when it got something to do with government. We does get good licks like we are little children who not supposed to put our mouth in big people business and that’s why things the way they are on the island. That’s why them parents wouldn’t want to be seen speaking to the newspaper, the pressure too much,” explained one of the businessmen.

‘All Out’ gets thumbs up

However, being as liberal as they possibly can, the businessmen were very upbeat as they endorsed Mr Sprauve as the man to take the lead for the Ninth District. “We are not looking for someone who necessarily has been around a long time like the O’Neal guy who is all tucked up, we want someone like All Out who is a man on the ground, he is a people’s person, he is the type of guy that listens even before he got into politics, he is a businessman who assesses the needs of the community before venturing into a business and those are the qualities among many others that he has that will make him the right man to represent us in government,” said one businessman.

Many who spoke with this news site were not very familiar with Mr Sprauve’s official name and when the question was put to them using the official name they had no clue who he was until one burst out, “You got to be talking about ‘All Out’ tell us ‘All Out’ man that’s the man we know, ‘All Out’ he got to use that name on the campaign trail ‘All Out’ and we going get one of our youths to do a nice jingle with him because he got to win this thing.”

The businessmen were all in unison in pointing out that the time for voting ‘friend’ is no more as the island has been developing rapidly and their needs are much bigger than they were ten to twelve years ago. “Because you are my friend or because you for NDP or whatever the case like that and I going try get you in because I know when I get you in you going take care of me, we aint looking for that, we are looking for the needs of the island, we are going forward in this century right now and the island is growing,” said another businessman.

Asked about their feel for Dr Hubert O’Neal who also is vying to take the seat as Representative for the Ninth District, they were not rudely critical but, according to one, “He (O’Neal) need to go sit down. He is not a people’s person….you got to take off the shirt and tie and flat foot out.”

Additionally, the businessmen said they are on the lookout for those who would now come to be knocking at their doors begging for vote. “All Out new to this so he is more than welcomed, but people like O’Neal and the pack of them in government right now we setting for them. We does be having serious issues over here and we can’t get them to come, we got to run to the newspaper, we don’t want them come knocking down we doors now they had three long years to come at intervals and they didn’t come. We were left on our own like the step children.”

Mr Sprauve, once confirmed by the VIP Congress, will face the NDP’s Dr Hubert O’Neal who ran and lost four times and the People’s Empowerment Party’s Faye J. Reese-Charles. There are also expected to be a few independent candidates, including Dr Rawle R. Hannibal and Mr Albert O. Wheatley, in the race hoping to succeed the Virgin Islands’ first premier Hon Ralph T. O’Neal OBE, who served the people of the 9th District for some forty years [1975-current].

I don`t know what virgin Gordians want--I don`t even think they know what they want--I look objectively at the candidates for the 9th, Hannibal seems to be the best of them in terms of qualification--passion and good intension for the youths,-- a loyal and friendly person who can hold his own in the house--Loves music--Passionate about better health for the people and he loves and cares about the BVI. (I sound like his campaign manager--LOL . I am not ) Just some one I knew for along time and admire a lot and think he would be a good representative

Aligning yourself with a party does not automatically make you a good choice. Voters are always blinded by this party nonsense and fanfare. Please be wiser this year because none of them are good choices to be honest.

Hannibal is a VIP vote splitter to counter the Wheatley effect. Bertie in the ninth!

Hannibal is NOT a vote splitter for anyone! He is truly a man for the people.
        • He brought a top class clinic to VG and fought to keep the Top Class doctor (Padilla) in VG when people was trying to make him work elsewhere.
        • He is a real fighter... look at how he has come back from his injury/illlness.
        • He spends more time on VG in any given month (and productive time I might add) than the entire HOA has spent combined... (compare for a year!)
        • He has provided healthcare to many people who didn't have the means to pay.
        • He has had so many ideas and vision for VG..for years..long before ever considering to enter politics.
        • He is a people person...NOT a political party personality, prostitute or puppet.
He is down to dirt! He interacts, communicates and shares with everyone. ...young, old, NDP, VIP, No PP, rich, poor...regardless of their station in life.
        • He saw the plight and heard the cries of his beloved people on VG and Anegada and decided to STAND UP, STEP UP and SPEAK UP for the people...not for any party. He was NOT selected by a party and promised, bribed or bought for "30 pieces of silver".
        • He announced his candidacy FIRST... definitely a leader not a follower or band wagoner.

He isn't perfect, tall and muscular, popular but he is PASSIONATE and is the BEST choice for the 9th. When people sick...they go to a doctor, right? When they are not sure what's wrong they run test, scans, xrays and diagnostics, right? Well we sick and tired! We need a doctor...we need Dr. Hannibal!

I love him too but he does not have a team. Not even a 7. Do not worry he will get all the support he need to make sure VG get the right doctors and nurses there and a proper facility too. It is time.
          • I ALL IN wid Hannibal (06/05/2015, 09:22) Like (1) Dislike (1) Reply
We all love him...We love All Out too..we even like Bertie but the traditional team thing ain't working for Anegada and VG. NDP had a team... VIP had a team... How has that benefited the 9th? Others may have a "team" but who are they playing/working for? Who are they playing/working against? What we NEED is representation! Someone to stand up for US...not for some of us but for ALL of us. Someone who will LISTEN to US and work WITH and FOR US...NOT for their "team". These so called teams sell out our lands and lined their pockets and that of their friends...its politics,I get it. But what I don"t get is how they doing this to the 9th for how long and we okay with it. Well it isn't okay! HANNIBAL HAS A TEAM...it's called THE PEOPLE OF 9TH DISTRICT! Teams work together so let's do that..Let's work together to make this work for us ALL. Let's work with Hannibal and let him work for US.

Wheatley in the house of assemble---naaaah --we don`t need another Alv Kains or Alv Kristfer---The house is not a place for Mamas boys and girls--and yes people and soft people-- or seat warmers--you have to bring passion--fire--fight--- things and time have changed---Frazer and Fahie are good examples.---and they are very effective. Before we vote consider their personality--look for that fire and passion for fairness for all.--- The Fahie kind. Brave--fearless---Passion--facts

The system is not setup to give proper representation. If your elected Representatives isn't part of the winning government they're pretty much dead in the water. We have to give district leaders true power. The system needs reforming.
