Kim Collins sensationally walked away from the 100m 1st Round after falling out with his team over a visit to his wife.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The odyssey is over for Wild Card Olympic Sprinter Jamaal Alexander as he finished 4th in his Preliminary Heat today Saturday August 4, 2012 in a time of 10.92 seconds.

It was always going to be tough for the young Sprinter with a bright future as his heat contained Berenger Aymand Bosse and Foo Ee Yeo who had run 10.38 and 10.62 this season, with both times well below Alexander’s Season and Personal Best of 10.80.

Alexander got off to a good start and was matching the front runners stride for stride until about two thirds into the race when he pulled up slightly with a hamstring twinge and his chance was gone.

An MRI scan after the race, thankfully showed it was nothing serious, but bad enough to end his dream at least this time.

As it turned out, Bosse won the Heat in 10.55, Yea was second in 10.57 and Azneem Ahmed from the Maldives took third, set a new National Record and progressed as a fastest qualifier in a time of 10.79.

Ahead of the 1st round proper came the sensational news that St Kitts and Nevis sprinter Kim Collins dramatically dropped out of the Olympic 100m heats after falling out with his team for visiting his wife.

The 36-year-old, who won the 2003 world 100m title, announced on Twitter: "My fans. I won't lie. Won't be running."

Collins carried the St Kitts and Nevis flag at the opening ceremony but the country's Olympic Committee said they had not heard from him for three days.

Collins commented: "Even men in prison get their wives to visit."

He added on Twitter: "6 athletes and 9 officials. That ain't enough to make some people happy."

The general secretary of St Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee, Alphonso Bridgewater, said: "We are unaware of his whereabouts."

Collins, who won bronze at the 2011 World Championships, suggested the debacle would signal the end of his international career.

There were no other surprises in the 1st Round with American Ryan Bailey winning his heat and recording the fastest time of 9.88. Justin Catlin ran 9.97, Yohan Blake 10.00, Dwain Chambers 10.02, Asafa Powell 10.04, Tyson Gay 10.08 and Usain Bolt 10.09.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Keston Bledman also reached the semi finals with a time of 10.13 as did Richard Thompson (TNT) running 10.14 and Keymar Hyman who progressed with a time of 10.16. Rondell Sirillo (TNT) finished in 10.23 to join his team mate in the semis.

Antoine Adams from St Kitts/Nevis with his time of 10.22 also qualified, but Jason Rogers from St Kitts missed out with a time of 10.30.

I watched the race. He was doing well initially and he shut down too early. It looked like he was intimidated by the event. Too bad. He could have qualified.

I watch this race this afternoon and he could of place third, I find that he slow down too quick coming into the finish line. But he did well though.

His personal best is faster than 10.80. He has run 10.56 and 10.6. Guess they don't think those times are legitimate. Oh well, didn't make a difference anyway.

If you guys knew your facts right and would actually read you would know the talented young guy hurt his hamstring while running! Maybe he would've made the semifinals who knows but he was injured. I'm just proud he finished it the best he could.
