ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – When, Ajelan Lewis, the man who is charged for the serious offence in which he attacked and slashed the throat a foreigner, Ayoka Pond, appeared before Magistrate Ayana Baptiste-Dabreo yesterday January 20, 2015 the court head that he may have suffered from psychosis which was brought upon him as a result of inducing an un-named substance.

His victim was a tourist to the Territory who hails from Antigua and was at the time visiting the home of a friend, the same home where the accused was at the time.

In presenting the facts of the case yesterday the court was startled to hear that the man was able to clearly recount the incident of the day as he gave a clear description of what happened and what led him to commit the crime.

He told police that he was hearing voices in his head at the time. “I was hearing voices. I was thinking fast. I went into the house and grabbed the knife from the kitchen and went outside and hold the girl head and cut she throat with the knife,” the court heard.

It was also related that it took one person who saw what was happening to shout out to Lewis and another holding him down that caused him to release the woman.

Yesterday he was not required to plead to the indictable offense but is scheduled for another court appearance on February 6, 2015.

A number of our youth are suffering from mental illness but no one is paying attention. We need to get closer to our youth in order to monitor them and help when we can.

Most of our youths are so hook on drugs and what most do they mix their drugs, using drugs without fortifying their bodies, they dont like to eat and eat well that is to many drugs on hungry bellies. They mix energizers with rum etc. However, our youths do need help and mentors, many of us got help from someone especially if we were/are going down the same or similar road and it is our turn now to reach out and help somebody. You hear the boy next door is a kleptomanic and the young girl across the street from you is already sexually active at this young tender age reach out and touch that person and someone please help that young man. As you can see the devil is at work especially at the start of this new year . Look and listen to the news all over this world. So let us continue to pray for each other
