DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI – Come November 16, 2014 when students of the Adagio Dance School perform at their first Dance Recital, they will be doing their best as the pay tribute to the late Demiah O. O’Neal, one of the first to have attended the school when it opened its doors.

"One of the main highlights of the show is a Tribute to Miss Demiah O'Neal; who before her untimely passing on January 30, 2014 was one of the first students to attended Adagio Dance School," said Ms Sasha S. Creque, Artistic Director of Adagio Dance School.

“Demiah was in fact one of my first students, she was such a joy to teach. So promising, full of energy and an excellent student. It was hard losing her and as a former student it's only right that we pay our respects and show our love to her in the form of this Tribute. She will never be forgotten at Adagio as she will always be in our hearts,” further stated Ms Creque.

The school will be having its first ever Dance Recital at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall from 4:00pm as something Ms Creque thought best to do considering the growing talent that she has thus far nurtured. This recital is primarily to illustrate what the students have learnt thus far and it presents an opportunity for them to learn about stage performances.

The showcase entails solo performances, trio performance, group numbers and a few twists here and there. The students have been working really hard to put their best foot forward on stage and I can't wait for them to do so according to the artistic director.

"The Recital has been promised to be a spectacular one as there will be surprise performances throughout the programme and there will be a prize giving award to the students to celebrate their accomplishments,” Ms Creque explained.

Ms. Creque said that over the years she had thought it best to challenge her students by creating two Dance Groups, which are known as the Adagio Dance Company and newly formed Adagio Junior Dance Team. Thus far the Adagio Dance Company has made several appearances within this year including performances at the Queen's Baton Closing, Ecamper's Talent Show and at the BVI Dance Fest which have all set the tone to have their first Dance Recital.

Adagio Dance School has been operating in the Virgin Islands (VI) for the past three years. Initially, it started in Virgin Gorda but was subsequently relocated to Tortola to offer knowledge and physical training in the arts to a wider cross section of students. Under the guidance of Ms. Sasha S. Creque, Artistic Director, the school has seen tremendous growth with an enrollment of 140 students to date.

Adagio Dance School offers two main genres of dance, Ballet and Hip Hop, along with two supplementary classes, Acrobatics and Flexibility Classes.

Tickets for the dance recital can be purchased at the Save the Seed Energy Centre and Diva Hair and Nail Salon. Adults $10 and children $5. The prices will be the same at the door.

GOOD TO GO BUT IS THIS OUR CULTURE?

What do you mean if this is our culture?? What you may be blind to is the fact that ballet is the foundation for all dances. The 'Quadrille' dance or for your basic knowledge 'The Heritage dancers' has the same foot movements which were derived from ballet. The word 'Balance'; pronounced 'Ba-Lan-Say' is ballet term which entails the same foot movement. Or better yet the well known seven step is made up of 'Battements', pronounced 'Bat-Mah' which again is from ballet. So before you question if this is our culture.....think twice.

The most ancient dance originated in Africa among the Ancient Egyptians.... all other dances followed....
Ancient Egyptians (Africans) led; All others followed. We are taking our credit, not giving it up.
