Acting Chief Immigration Officer Ian B. Penn called to the Bar

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Acting Chief Immigration Officer Mr Ian B. Penn is one of the most recent locals to be admitted to the Bar in the Virgin Islands.

Mr Penn was called to the Bar at a Special Sitting of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court on November 19, 2019.

The Sitting was presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Ann Marie-Smith and also saw expatriate Magistrate Ayanna O. Baptiste-DaBreo being called to the VI Bar.

Former Senior Crown Counsel, Director of Public Prosecutions of St Kitts and Nevis and owner of Veritas Law, Mr Valston M. Graham, supported by Senior Crown Counsel Leslie-Ann Faulkner, presented the two as worthy of being called to practice law in the Virgin Islands.

Mr Penn’s journey to VI Bar

Mr Penn started his legal experience and training as a cadet in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). In 2008 he went on off to law school where he attained his Bachelors of Law Degree. In 2016 he continued his legal studies in Manchester, United Kingdom and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in March of this year. He also became a certified Mediator.

Today, he continues as the Acting Chief Immigration Officer in the VI.

Among those present to support Mr Penn at the Special Sitting was Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9).
