Acting AG to serve as Governor in Jaspert, Archer’s absence
During the absence of the Governor and the Deputy Governor, Acting Attorney General, Ms Fikile Dlamini, will act as Governor on Sunday, August 12, 2018, in accordance with Section 37 (1)(b) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007.
The information is disclosed in a Government Information Service press release issued on August 10, 2018, which quoted the relevant section of the Constitution Order that states: “During any period when the office of Governor is vacant, or the Governor is absent from the Virgin Islands or is for any other reason unable to perform the functions of his or her office, if the office of Deputy Governor is vacant, or the Deputy Governor is absent from the Virgin Islands or is for any other reason unable to perform the functions of the office of Governor, such person as Her Majesty may designate by instructions given through a Secretary of State during Her Majesty’s pleasure, act in the office of Governor and shall perform the functions of that office accordingly.”
Deputy Governor
According to the release, on Monday, August 13, 2018 Deputy Governor, Mr David D. Archer will act as Governor until August 27, 2018.
Mr Archer’s appointment is made in accordance with Section 37 (1)(a) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007 which states: “During any period when the office of Governor is vacant, or the Governor is absent from the Virgin Islands or is for any other reason unable to perform the functions of his or her office, the Deputy Governor shall, during Her Majesty’s pleasure, act in the office of Governor and shall perform the functions of that office accordingly.”
