Accused burglar Tyrell Samuel for October assizes
The court heard that Samuel, who is currently serving a sentence at Her Majesty’s Prison at Balsam Ghut in an unrelated matter, was also one of several men who did not have their matter properly before the High Court as they did not sign recognisance forms at the Magistrate court following their arraignment.
Samuel was placed before the High Court on a charge of Aggravated Burglary.
According to the allegations in the matter, the Virtual Complainant (VC) made a report to police on September 9, 2013 which stated that he and his girlfriend were at home when he heard a knock and looked outside to ascertain who was there.
He reportedly saw two individuals standing on his porch, both wearing masks and he observed that one had an object believed to be a gun.
One of the persons outside then attempted to open the door but it was locked so they attempted to kick the door which became damaged. The VC subsequently heard an explosion which sounded like a gunshot.
Officers later arrived at the home and removed evidence, including a spent shell. They also lifted fingerprints.
The defendant was later met at the Road Town Police Station and informed of the report by the VC and cautioned but reportedly made no reply. He was then arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
The following day an interview was conducted under caution where he allegedly denied the allegations and said he had never been to the residence of the VC.
The defendant was then formally charged for aggravated burglary. It was further noted that prints found at the scene allegedly matched those of the defendant.
