ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – “I had a costume designer who personally came to me and said ‘your girl is fabulous’...The director for the Miss Universe pageant she came to me and told me that the MSNBC did a call to do an interview with Abigail in reference to her Bio which was awesome.” so said Chairperson of the Miss BVI Pageant Committee, Alicia Hamm in an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online.

Those were memories that were hutched in her head and had given her the nudge that Miss BVI 2011/2012 Abigail F. Hyndman would have created history for the territory.

The vision was clear as it was not Ms. Hamm’s first experience at being a chaperone to an international pageant on behalf of the VI. “She overall did about five to six interviews with different news sites at the Miss Universe pageant, she just stood out and I was very happy and proud of her.” Ms Hamm said of Hyndman.

Hamm said that she could not have contained herself when Miss BVI was named number seven in the costume competition. “…Oh my God, I jumped up from my seat, I was like; yea yea yea, I was so happy ok, I was very happy for her and for the BVI last night (Wednesday December 19, 2012.),” said an obviously overjoyed Hamm.

The costume, which gave Hyndman an “aquatic look,” was designed by Anthony Felix, a national of the twin island of Trinidad and Tobago who presently resides in St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands (USVI).

Wednesday December 19, 2012 is certainly a date that has gone into the history books of the VI as it is the first time that a representative from the Virgin Islands has received so much attention at the Miss Universe Pageant.

“Her personality, it was her impressive experience and qualifications that caught the eyes of the international media and so many others in Las Vegas.”

Ms. Hamm was no doubt extremely pleased with the performance of Abigail F. Hyndman. “Well overall I think Abigail did very, very well. I had a lot of positive comments of her from various persons from within the Miss Universe organization and they absolutely loved her and very thing, everything when they speak to me they would tell me how wonderful she is,” said Ms. Hamm.

The Reigning Miss BVI 2012-2013, Miss Sharie deCastro, described Hyndman’s performance as extraordinary. “So I am just looking forward to meeting her and speaking to her to get an idea from her about her experience on stage at the Miss Universe.” She anticipates speaking a lot with Hyndman because she feels strongly that Hyndman’s knowledge and experience can play a pivotal role in her anticipated journey to becoming Miss Universe 2013.

“In reference to preparation for the pageant she can teach me a lot considering the fact that her performance especially in the costume segment which will definitely do a great boost especially for our tourist industry,” deCatro told Virgin Islands News Online.

At the time deCastro, Hamm, Chairman of the VI Festivals and Fairs Committee Marvin Blyden, and Mrs. Lynette Harrigan of the BVI Tourist Board, among others, were preparing to welcome Ms Hyndman, who has put the Territory on the map of Pageantry, back to her homeland.

Much pomp and ceremony is expected on the return today of Miss BVI 2011/2012 Abigail F. Hyndman.

Miss Universe Pageant is a failing entity...nobody subscribes to the obsolete notion of Standardized American Beauty.
