ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Domestic Violence has been described as a “real issue” in the Virgin Islands by Director of Family Support Network (FSN) Dr Sylvia M. Simmonds and has called on Government to seriously address the problem.

Speaking at the beginning of a 6KM Walk/Run event in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Saturday October 29, 2016 Dr Simmonds said it was observed recently that at least 90% of primary and high school students have witnessed their parents fighting or some form of domestic violence.

This she said is a big problem and that it can be attributed to some of the behavioural issues displayed by some children.

Dr Simmonds then pleaded with Junior Minister for Tourism and At Large Representative Hon Archibald C. Christian, who participated in the run, to urge his Government to intervene.

The FSN director noted too that a number of activities were held in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, including visits to schools.

Meanwhile, a number of persons braved early morning showers to participate in the 6KM Walk/Run

Some folks just love to chat even when what is said cannot reasonably be correct. Maybe the good lady was thinking about the persons who visit her. We may be terrible but 90%, no. If she did a study then publish it.
