ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- An 80 year-old-woman on Virgin Gorda will be heading to the Magistrate's Court in January 2021, after being charged for theft.

On November 4, 2020, Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) had reported that Nathalie Creque was arrested and charged for allegedly stealing money from a woman’s purse left in a washroom at St Thomas Bay, Virgin Gorda.

Our information was confirmed in the Arrest Blotter for October 25-November 7, 2020, released by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) today, November 12, 2020.

According to the Arrest Blotter, on November 2, 2020, at 5:15pm, “Police arrested and charged Nathalie Creque, 80, of South Valley, Virgin Gorda for Theft. Bail was granted in the sum of $5,000 with one surety for her appearance before the Magistrate’s Court on 13-01-2021 at 0900hrs.”

Money was allegedly found in freezer

According to earlier reports reaching our newsroom, Creque was charged after the money reported stolen was located in a freezer at her place of work.

Our newsroom was informed that a woman had used a female washroom at St Thomas Bay jetty where she forgot her bag containing a purse with $920.00 in a white envelope.

She said when she returned for her bag she noticed the money was gone but observed the suspect leaving the washroom area.

The matter was reported to police who reportedly questioned the suspect and conducted a search.

The money fitting the description in the white envelope was allegedly found in the base of a white deep freezer at her workplace which is a bar at the ferry dock.

When you own your own business, there is no age limit. She had to be a thief from a young age. Don't pity her, she knew what she was doing.

I was thinking the same thing, my dear. At that age, she should be at home cooling out and her children taking care of her. Whoever her children are they should be ashamed to allow their mom to be still working as I am sure she worked hard to take care of them. SMH!! It would be interesting to see what will become of this matter.

I don't know this ladies circumstances. But be careful in stating that a certain age should be ashamed to be working. Some people are still sharp, energized and going home to sit down only sends them to the grave!

Can’t discriminate against age anymore. People can work in certain Jobs over 65 as long as they’re able

Eighty years old! Seriously. She should be home, sitting on her porch enjoying some sea breeze, watching the sunset and sipping on some punch. Granny you wrong for doing this. Jail isn't the place for you especially your age and neither is any kind of legal issues. Why bring shame on you and your family like this. Disappointed.

She should be. But what is times are hard and she has no means to support herself. wh9o knows what kind of children she has - some would see a mother starve no matter what you do for them. put yourself in her shoes. Stop condemn the woman. you know nothing about her or her life.

Don't let her age fool you. Now she doesn't need to go to jail, but publicly apologize and vow never to do it again, or she will then go to jail. Peace Out!

Something is not right with this story, I don't think this old lady is functioning correctly in the head, look at her age? She need to be tested for Alzheimers, plus why are our senior citizens working after 70 years in a place like the VVI where we are all one family, this is no laughing matter, shame on us, we need to look our for our citizens who've paved the way for us , they have worked so hard to preserved this land that we all are enjoying today yet some are catching hell, or sick and can't afford treatment. Sad society.

I’ve read all of the comments here before blogging; facts: she’s 80 yrs and working in a bar; so for her to be working she must be coherent enough to still be working. Yes at her age she could have some mental issues, but I want to believe and I could be wrong that this lady knew exactly what she was doing wrong- she didn’t just pick up the purse but she stuck it in her freezer - knowingly! Re: her age should she go to jail for this? Though in the US age does not play a role in punishment but I would say mercy should be showed to her with a stern warning that if she is ever again arrested for doing so then she should be made accountable unless she’s a kleptomaniac and cannot help stealing and would therefore need psychiatric help.. but I believe she knew what she was doing but still mercy..

Why you trying give the legal system you little social security money? Where is her family. We sure she did this or taking the rap for someone else. It really bad when someone’s eighty year old mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, cousin had to do this. This situation sad on another level.

The BVI is on a crazy journey to destruction. The truth is it will be hard to find an 80 year old Virgin Islander who would do something like that. We have lost control of our country and our so called leaders are in it for what they can get.
