ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - An eight year old boy succumbed to an illness yesterday March 18, 2015 plunging a family into grief.

Reports are that Quinton Isaiah Mills died following complications from a tumor on his neck that had plagued him for some length of time.

According to the child’s grandmother, Shirley E. Mills, the child has been in and out of hospital both here and in Puerto Rico.

She said that he last visited the doctor on Monday March 16, 2015 and was admitted on Tuesday March 17, 2015. He died the following day.

“He had a tumor. He was in Puerto Rico doing tests and it was found that he had a tumor. It was not cancerous but it was restricting his breathing,” said the grandmother.

However, she said that he hardly complained about any pain and was doing well at the Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre, taking part in all of the activities there.

“We decide we are not going to take him to Puerto Rico anymore,” said the boy’s grandmother.

Contact was made with the boy’s father Tavis Mills but he was in no condition to speak with us.

Quinton was an awesome little boy that had a great love for the Lord. He was smart and enjoyed playing by himself and with others. This is such a shock because I knew he had the tumor, but I didn't realize that it was restricting his breathing and maybe I had hoped he would grow out of it.... I don't know. He just never appeared hindered by it.... God knows why this has happened, but this is an extremely sad day. I will pray for little Quinton's parents, his little sister, Miss Mills and his family.

To the parents and loved ones; I lost my son who was so so much younger than "Quinn" and despite all the sincerest words expressed by so many around me I just kept hearing the same thing. But i knew during this tough time, each meant well.
Until one day, my BFF in Atlanta called me to see how I was doing (she called everyday). But this one day she said hold on because her husband came home from working a night shift and said he wanted to speak to me. The words he uttered I will always find peace, no matter the dark moments.

He said, "They say whenever a spirit of innocence which has not truly experienced life passes on, his soul is immediately returned to God."

I do not know you, but give thanks for the borrowed time he spent with you. May those memories bring smiles and warmth to your hearts and spirit.

    Selah.

Despite being aware of his tumor, this boy was like any other "normal" little boy. He played well and worked well. He recently topped his school's spelling B which was March, 10th, and conquering all the tie breakers. He was so full of life.... I never expected his passing despite his health condition. It is true that we never know when someone will go and it seems, well, from my knowledge of him, that he never burdened others with his health issues. My last memories of him were awesome... smiles and energy. Deepest sympathy to the family, to the parents in particular, to God be the glory for great things he has done and will do for you guys. R.I.P Quinton Mills ... you lived!

Was he placed on oxygen? Also! In this picture he is not hooked up to any machine checking his vitals! Why? Why couldn't the peace of crap hospital (with all its new paint!) couldn't simply insert a breathing tube to allow him to breath until such time that the tumor could be removed! Are they not familiar with this procedure?? Its my business to know just how educated these doctors and nurses are

A healthy child with a non cancerous tumor has passed and his parents now in pain.. but such is life..

HOWEVER! I will continue to say.. P**bles needs to stop allowing people to die! We go to you for a reason so that you can do your best to save us! You looking pretty but you still useless!!!!

This is not the time for that level of talk -- and yes everyone is saddened. Even myself and I'm all the way in the usvi. As one, let us all reserve utmost respect for the family at this time. Please let's do this for "Quinn".

Its painful to see little children die. I wish a little more was done for this child. Maybe the story would have been different. Was it that the Doctors in PR gave up on little Quincy? Were there alternative medical help that could have been sought? BVI is a British territory and little Quincy should be a British citizen. Couldn't this child have been taken to England for further medical help? The mother of this boy has her own cross of life that she is carrying and no doubt is not in the position to seek medical help outside of BVI. Shouldn't our medical system automatically refer children like Quincy? Its Quincy today, no one knows who else could be in this situation. I feel we let Quincy down. The last I saw of him when he was playing drums, full of excitements. Could the Dr not tell that the rate of deterioration is such that Quincy would not be alive by the time the consultant is here? Painful

To lose anyone regardless of age is such a trauma but to lose such a young innocent child is just heartbreaking. To all his family who is going through the pain of his lost, I pray that that the love of God embraces you. I am so sad when I hear that the family was trying to get help but none came. This breaks my heart. I believe however, that if each of us in the territory had put our resources together, then this child would have gotten the help that he needed. Just imagine if 12,000 of us had put $10. A little by each of us would have gone a far way. Please let this be the last time that something like this happens when together as a people it could have been prevented. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
