Motilall Balkaran faced two charges connected to the threat when he appeared in court before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Monday, but he pleaded guilty to both.

He was denied bail and remanded to prison until April 16 when he reappears in court.

Balkaran allegedly called 911 on March 20, 2018, and threatened to kill Granger by placing a bomb at the Office of the Ministry of the Presidency. He allegedly used expletives as he issued the threat.

However, in court on Monday, defence attorney Tiffany Jeffrey argued that her client had never been subject to any voice recognition or verification to prove that he was indeed the person who had called the Emergency Service as investigators allege.

As the lawyer made an application for bail – which turned out to be unsuccessful – she had also contended that Balkaran was not the only person who lived at the house from which the threatening call had allegedly originated.
