ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - With graduation right around the corner, fifth form students and teachers of the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) came together to host their 2012 Exit ceremony.

Parents, teachers, family members and friends all came out to witness and support as each student of the ESHS 2012 graduating class were rewarded for their efforts and hard work during their time in high school at the event which was held at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall last evening, June 21, 2012.

The students received awards for their completion of different courses, attending different clubs, having the highest pass mark for a subject, the submission of outstanding work to their teachers and personal awards from private and public businesses as well as Government Ministers and the Premier.

The evening which was entertained by the students of the graduating class through, song renditions, music, dance and drama, was chaired by two students of the graduating class, Robyn Edmondson of 5 Science and K’Deja Crabbe of 5 Accounts with a guest host from the class of 2011.

Rendering a Motivational speech to the graduates, local performer Travis Osbourne aka “B Breezy”, encouraged the students to look beyond what is happening now and focus on their long term goals.

He insisted that they set goals and work hard, not to meet their goals but to exceed them.

“Focus, whether you are continuing you studies or going into the world of work, just focus on what you need and your desires and work hard for them, you will get there.”

In attendance was Principal of ESHS Ms. Melissa Amey along with the Minister for Education and Culture Hon. Myron Walwyn.

Amidst everythign I can complain about - late start, technical issues with the sound, a motivational speaker that I wouldnt want my child to take advice from, a ceremony that went on far too long - I can truly say I enjoyed the evening. This was for the students and not us who would find every reason to complain about something and so I hope the graduates found it to be a memorable evening. I was happy to see them recognizing the 5th Form Year Head, Principal Amey and outgoing Asst Principal Sellwood, giving respect where respect is definitely due. Congrats again to all graduates and all the best whether you go to college, university or go to work!
