ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Fifth district representative, Delores Christopher, left her first official meeting on Wednesday, November 29, 2011 with a plethora of ideas from members of her constituents, who are willing to work with the representative to improve the district.

Topping bucket list for residents were ensuring the youths are occupied in activities that would steer them clear from trouble, stimulating projects that would lure tourists to the district and a community centre for Huntums Ghut.

One resident suggested that an iron cast oven be placed at the Watch House, a popular locale for tourists, so that they can have a ‘hands on experience’ with the Virgin Islands culture.

“That means they will spend a little more time there...and we have the murals which would make the experience even better,” the resident stated.

Meanwhile, Nicole “Drummergirl” Wheatley is offering her services in assisting young men and women on how to play musical instruments, especially the drums.

Shabbaz informed the district representative that there is a natural spring in the district which is currently being used as a garbage dump. He is willing to take Hon. Christopher and her team to show her where it’s located so as to stop the dumping practice.

Regarding the community centre in Huntums Ghut, one resident, who showed off her art and craft, recommended that women can be taught how to make souvenirs and become entrepreneurs like her.

She recounted the hardship in finding a job, and how making pillows and bags have earned her a decent living. Impressed with what she can make, At Large Representative Archibald Christian informed that crowd that he knew someone who purchased 13 such bags.

Lighting was also a concern for residents and the 5th district representative assured them that she has already spoken to the BVI Electricity Corporation where several locations have been identified as key areas for lighting, one being around the Multi-Purpose Centre.

And in order to keep in touch with her constituents, the district representative collected names, occupation and telephone numbers of all in attendance with the view of contracting them for projects within the district.

When asked by Virgin Islands News Online of her thoughts on the meeting, one resident replied, “I guess they are living up to the promise of listening to the people. I appreciate the effort and I am willing to work with Delores.”

You are one of those fools that just like to repeat what others say without first checking out the story. You obviously don't understand what it is to be vindictive. Just watch her in action the the support behind her and recognize the quality in the individual. Nothing like the past rep who was only interested in status and trying to secure a pension. You and others know he did nothing. Mrs. Christopher met the district in the same state she left it. People like you if you are in the 5th need to come out and participate and stop running your mouth. The change the community needed is here and whether you embrace it nor not it is here to stay. Mrs. Christopher is with a team that is supportive and will see that her works are done in the district. Now go back and regroup and come with something constructive. We will see that Mrs. Christopher tenure is a successful one because we are going to pitch in in every way. Lip service does nothing.
