5 Second District families benefit from kind gesture of local businessman
Each family received $1000 each and represented some 17 persons in total that would benefit from this charity.
Second District Representative Honourable Melvin M. Turnbull was called upon to identify a couple of the recipients and to facilitate the presentation to the elated beneficiaries.
"Mr Clive George of Connect Enterprises decided he wanted to do something to assist persons, as we are familiar with all the damages that have happened throughout the Territory. He is a member of the Second District, a very good friend and neighbour of mine from the time we were kids," Hon Turnbull told Virgin Islands News Online.
The recipients included Audrena Lloyd, Darrell Turnbull, Golda Thomas, Charles Lloyd and another person who asked that her name and photo not be published.
According to Hon Turnbull, the contribution of $5000 by Mr George to gift 5 families with a $1000 is to assist them with their rebuilding or making their homes a little bit more comfortable for the Christmas season.
"It was just a tremendous opportunity to just share and see the joy on the persons faces. They were overjoyed and extremely grateful. We even got hugs and kisses," Mr Turnbull shared.
Meanwhile, many other business persons in the Second District have been throwing in their lot since the hurricanes, including by making their equipment available to assist in the clearing up efforts, making donations to those more in need, and providing meals to families.
"Overall, it just speaks to who we are as a community, persons like Mr Clive George and other business persons that have been doing so much within the community after these hurricanes. I think that is the fabric of who we are as BVI Islanders.
"I am just eternally grateful to him and others who have made these kinds of gestures."
