49th St takes 2-1 lead in EE/LL b'ball Xmas League

BELLE VUE, Tortola, VI – Game three of the best of five Championship series in the 7th/8th District Dr Irad Potter Christmas League saw 49th Street beat the Nottingham Bulldogs, 80-62, on Friday January 31, 2014 at the Belle Vue Gym.

The result marked a complete turnaround in the ebb and flow of the final as now last year’s losing finalist takes a 2-1 series lead into next weekend’s game four and now just one victory away from the title.

On Friday 49th Street got 24 points from Radley Stevens, 23 from David “Bolo” Lettsome, 12 and 9 rebounds from Jahmal Rabsatt as well  as 11 points from Eustabe “Boss” Freeman.

The Bulldogs, who are now without the unavailable Asiv Beazer, were led by Cedric Kings 16 points and 11 rebounds. Travis Isaac notched 15 points with 6 rebounds and both Kevon Lettsome and  Deon Smith scored 12.

Lettsome had also proved the driving force in game 2, last Wednesday, when he lead the the team to a series leveling (1-1), 65-62, win.

He top scored with 20 points and 10 rebounds, Gavin Frett finished with 10 points and Rabsatt picked up 9 points and 9 rebounds.

Isaac was the Bulldogs’ top scorer with 20 points and 11 rebounds, whilst Lettsome added 15 and Smith 10.

Both the Wednesday and Friday games were preceded by an exhibition match for  the Rams from Elmore Stoutt High School.

Squad Up won the first encounter, 56-50, on the back of 17 points from Kishaun Fahie and 14 from Shamoi Dagou. Franklyn Penn Junior top scored for the boys with 12 points.

The Rams then locked horns with Underrated and came out with a 50-47 victory.

Hakeem Penn scored 16 points and Penn Junior 12 for the Rams, whilst Kamal Brown scored 12 for Underrated and Alston Leonard 11.

The Notthingham Bulldogs and 49th Street next face each other on Friday, February 7, 2014 at the Belle Vue Gym at 8:30PM to determine whether there will be a game 5. An exhibition game will preceed the fourth game between the two teams.
