40 complete annual D1 B/ball camp with international coach
The week long Annual First District Basketball Camp was sponsored by the First District Representative Honourable Andrew A. Fahie.
The international coach on the programme, Matt Howard from Houston, Texas, USA spoke with the youth at the end of the session about being disciplined, being on time and having respect at all times in order to be good at anything in life with basketball being no different.
“The First District youth were inspired by the brief pep talk from Coach Howard of Houston, Texas, USA. Many First District parents continue to attend the camp as they watch their child participate in the camp and learn the fundamental skills in basketball. This year's camp has been proclaimed by most of the youth as one of the best,” said a press release from Honourable Fahie.
In a brief comment to this news site, Honourable Fahie noted that this year's First District basketball camp was a success despite the challenges at times with the weather.
“Once again I must first thank God for sparing our lives and watching over us to have another successful and injury free First District Youth Basketball camp. I also express thanks to the parent/guardians who allowed their children to participate in this year's camp,” he said.
“Many parents this year attended the camp and even participated, which made it even more special than usual. I thank the coaches for their stewardship namely coach Matt Howard of Houston, Texas, USA, coach Karl ‘Dub’ Scatliffe and coach Rhennie O. Phipps. They went above the call of duty to impart their knowledge of the game and the skills that need to be mastered in order to develop the children in basketball but even more so in life in general,” he said.
“I thank the many First District youth that participated in this year's camp. More than 40 First District Youth enjoyed the camp and were lobbying for an additional week for which we will take into consideration for the next camp,” he said.
“At the end of each session daily, these young people listened attentively to many brief motivational pep talks that aimed to help keep them focused on excellence and beyond this upcoming school year and in life overall. The youth were encouraged to NEVER GIVE UP! To always do the right thing because it is the right thing to do. I must also thank the community for their overwhelming support as well as all media houses for their continuous professional coverage of yet another youth initiative for the youth of the First District,” he said.
