ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Four persons are said to be in custody as police investigate the murder of Catherine Pickering, 67, who was shot in the head during a robbery at her residence in Paraquita Bay, Tortola, on April 18, 2021.

Pickering died from her injuries on April 19, 2021.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) had said officers of the Major Crime Team continue to follow a number of leads into the robbery and now news comes that four persons are in custody.

“Police can confirm that four persons are presently in custody assisting with investigations into the murder of Catherine Pickering,” Police Information Officer Diane L. Drayton said this morning, April 21, 2021.

Murder has sparked community outrage

Police had stated that initial reports indicate that a local businesswoman arrived home at Paraquita Bay around 7:30 pm with her day’s proceeds when she was approached by someone demanding money.

The victim, the mother of the businesswoman, then attempted to exit the home when she was shot.

The assailant or assailants made off with a bag containing a sum of money. No one else was injured in the incident, police said.

The murder sparked outrage in the community and legislators on both sides of the aisle, led by Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1), have condemned the killing and have appealed to the community to assist the police.

That's all I can hold on to for justice for Ms.Pickering, Trinity, Franklin, Lovell,Glenn .........and all the other victims. Many times the police will say they have people in custody, but the next day they are always released. For a SMALL ISLAND, the crime rate is way too high and all I can wonder is if the government really care SMH

The Justice System should intervene and demand that the RVIPF perform their duties and find the Killers. Tired of them with their half #$% tactics. Holding folks based on here say without properly investigating the Lead.

We don't have the best police force in the Virgin Islands, many are as crooked as the criminals themselves. Most likely the police are just harassing innocent employees and citizens 'as usual'...as they do this ever time and the true criminals are home happy knowing that the police are too incapable of solving crimes.

No need to criticise the police; they may not be the best. Even when they make arrests you people come on here criticising the magistrates, the chief of police and all law enforcement. The parents, girlfriends and other family members know the criminals but they spending the money so they don't care.

Catherine Pickering and I are in the same age range but not related. It hurts like hell to know she was in her home, minding her own business and still lost her life. People who know, it is time to speak up.

We would not criticize them if we didn’t have a personal experience with their corrupt behavior. Many of them have criminal minds. If one of their friends or family hit your car, let’s see how they deal with you? You all think that just because someone dresses in a uniform that it changes their wicked nature? You will learn! Systematic organized crime and corruption PERIOD!

IF THEY HAVE TO QUESTION THEM FOR 20 HOURS NON STOP, PLEASE DO SO. SOMEONE IN THE GROUP WILL CRACK UNDER PRESSURE. PAY ATTENTION TO THEIR EYE MOVEMENTS, BODY MOVEMENTS, SHAKING OF THE KNEES/LEGS AND EYE CONTACT. IF SOMEONE DON’T LOOK YOU IN THE EYES THAT IS A SIGN OF GUILT.

If found guilty there should be a death penalty ..,. A slow painful one . Also mandatory 10 year prison for gun crimes ... No questions asked . We are very close to losing our homeland to this human scum . Stop it now . Stop and search ... Illegal scooters .... Let's take our territory back . I don't care who it is or who's kid it is .
