3.0 magnitude earthquake felt in VI

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The focus may have been on the weak tropical wave affecting the Virgin Islands (VI); however, the Territory was also given a gentle reminder this morning, July 12, 2020, that the VI is in a seismically active zone.
Preliminary information from the US Geological Survey (USGS) is that a magnitude 3.0 earthquake was felt 55 km NNW of Charlotte Amalie, US Virgin Islands at a depth of 10.0 km around 8:52 am.
Persons across the [British] Virgin Islands have since taken to social media, indicating they felt the tremor.
No watches, advisories or warnings have been issued by the Department of Disaster Management (DDM).
