CAPOONS BAY, Tortola, VI – Some 30 First District youths were registered with the over 17 companies that participated in the First District Job Fair and Career Expo held at the Leonora Delville Primary School in Capoons Bay on Friday October 16, 2015.

And sponsor of the event, First District Representative Honourable Andrew A. Fahie believes that it was a success, not only in helping young persons of the district find job opportunities but in terms of offering expert career advice to those still in high school and the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC).

“I first must thank God for how successful the First District Youth Job Fair and Career Expo was on Friday October 16, 2015 at the Leonora Delville Primary School. I thank all persons, organisations, media, companies, Government entities, non-government entities, and youth that participated or contributed to the event,” said Honourable Fahie in a comment to this news site today October 19, 2015.

“Once again we have proven that together we will always achieve more. 60 First District youths attended the event. 30 of those youths are unemployed and they registered with the 17 companies and Government agencies to explore the opportunities being provided for employment,” he said.

According to Honourable Fahie, those First District youth expressed that they liked the job expo and had fun. “They felt a renewed sense of hope in getting a job. They stated that they are very optimistic that through this event they will finally get employment,” he said.

Students receive career advice

He said that the other thirty First District youth that attended were a combination of current secondary school students & HLSCC students for which both are from the First District.

“They were fortunate to receive career advice and insight in many professions by many presenters; Dr Craig Stoutt on medicine; Mr Steve Augustine on Architecture, Mr Linton V. Leonard on graphic arts; Miss Stacey Bartley on Nursing; Mr. Chad George on compliance; Dr Jerry Smith on physio-therapy; among many others. Those young people were inspired and left with a renewed sense of purpose.”

The First District Representative expressed his optimism that the 30 job-seeking youth will find employment having registered with the participating entities.

“I am very optimistic that the 30 youth seeking employment through this event will be successful. I will continue to play my part and play my part well in preparing the future, our youth, for the future. The future belongs to the prepared. Hence we must all share in the continuous process of preparing our youth to be the best that they can be but more so as leaders we must guide them in a manner that will allow them to fulfil their God given purpose for existing,” Hon Fahie declared.
