ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Leader of the Opposition Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal OBE (R9) said that it has been three long years since the signing of a contract for the installation of guard rails on roads in the Ninth District and to date they have not been installed.

He also called for the Government to fix a road in Virgin Gorda since its condition is causing a senior educator to suffer discomfort and inconvenience.

O’Neal, speaking during the budget debates on Monday December 15, 2014 during the Second Sitting of the Fourth Session of the Second House of Assembly, said that the road is in such disrepair that when it rains the educator has to leave his car and walk the rest of the way.

“I am a bit concerned that [since November 2011 guard rails were ordered but none of them has been erected],” he said.

“Contracts were even signed to install them. Three years have passed…nothing. Three long years…nothing,” he said.

On the state of the road in Virgin Gorda, he said, “I made representation to the Minister for Communications and Works for the Head teacher of the Bregado Flax [Educational Centre] for the public road [leading to his house] which in a real bad state,” he said.

“And sometimes after rain falls he got to park his car way down and then walk up. I have been begging [Hon Mark H. Vanterpool (R4)] to try and help [to fix this]. It is a public road and I know he is a busy man. I know the action man is a busy man and I try to be as reasonable as possible,” said Hon O’Neal.

“I hope it will be possible…I don’t think it will cost a leg and an arm in order to help [the Head teacher] so that he will be able to drive comfortably,” he said.
