ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Organisers are sticking to the set number of seven competitors each for the ‘Groovy’ and that the ‘Power’ segments of the Soca Monarch Competition for 2014 even as they have seen a rise in the numbers of persons registering and expressing interests thus far.

This information was shared with this news site by Mr Eustace ‘Boss’ Freeman, one of the key persons behind the competition which made a grand entry into the activities of the 2013 the Tortola Emancipation Festivals. “We have quite a number of new and talented persons, young ones that have stepped up to the challenge this year,” he said.

The competition is set to be launched on June 1, 2014 with a massive beach party at Beef Islands and according to ‘Boss’ it is at that time they will be releasing the final lists of competitors and making some pertinent announcements. “We will have every last detail ready at the launch so we want everyone to come out, hear the great news and have a blast of a time,” he said.

The event is not likely to be held on the Wednesday of the Festivals week as was the case last year but is sure to be on a day that is well suited, he said.

Asked about what’s new this year Freeman said that one thing that is already standing out is the quality of soca music being produced by the competitors. “From the releases that are out there and those submitted to us I can safely say the quality of songs is at a much higher standard this year.”

The competition is being promoted by HD Promotions in collaboration with Grate VI Music Alliance.
