- UK teen said ‘Lord’s Prayer’ to send father to ‘Hell’ – Court heard
Sebastian DeCastro Grey, 19, pleaded guilty to physically assaulting his father on July 13, 2016 at Lambert's Estate. Photo: VINO/File
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A teen who claimed to have been haunted by childhood horrors allegedly meted out to him at the hands of his father, recited the famous ‘Lord’s Prayer’, Matthew 6:9-13, before unleashing blows to his father, to the extent of attempting to strangle him with the cord of a blender.

This was the deed of Sebastian DeCastro Gray, 19, who was charged and placed before the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday July 19, 2016 when he told the Presiding Magistrate Ms Vareen Vanterpool that he had ‘snapped’ as he admitted to the charge against him – assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The court heard that the teen, on July 13, 2016, visited his father’s Lambert Estate’s home, where Mr Simon Grey was relaxing watching television when his accused son approached him about an incident that had occurred during his boyhood days.

Blender whipping

The young man became enraged and started reciting the ‘Lord’s Prayer’ in a loud tone of voice as he told his father that he was going to ‘hell’ then proceeded to beat the man about his head. He started the whipping with his naked hands but ended up collecting a blender and continued hitting the man in his head.

At point the accused took the cord of the blender, wrapped it around his father’s neck, and attempted to strangle him.

Grey managed to up a fight to the point of running from the beating. He immediately summoned the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) and was subsequently taken to Peebles Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

The 19-year-old was arrested and taken for an assessment of his mental state and subsequently formerly charged.

The accused was very apologetic for his actions while in court and despite the fact that the prosecution told the magistrate that Grey’s parents are now living in deep fear because of this action and as such should be deported to the United Kingdom (UK) where is a citizen, the magistrate pardoned him by ordering that he take anger management counselling.

The teen was granted bail in the sum of $25,000 and is to return to court on August 8, 2016 for sentencing.

I hope the mental heath facility is qualified to understand this kind of pathology. This is not a clean case. What made him snap? What was so deep-rooted to make him that angry (to be clear, I don't condone the violence). But it is well-known when a trauma happens and the perpetrator denies it like it didn't happen (like many abuse cases, rapes etc) it makes for feeling crazy as if his reality doesn't exist. That is why family discussion is so important and taking responsibility in general goes a long way to understanding. Not just saying "you're crazy!". I hope he gets help.

Where is your thoughtful post when it's locals involved in these same things? Now all of a sudden the mental health facility may not be qualified to understand? Only now? HMMMM!!!! Typical BS!

I agree that locals / belongers should get the same amount of sympathy and care as ex pats. This is a terrible Tracey, this boy is sick. He should be locked up in a mental institution and given therapy and medication. He also needs to pay for what he did to his father. The facts of this story are exaggerated and mostly incorrect. The boy had been planning on this even for s a while. He was also being treated for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. He should be denied bail and deported to his country so he can stop being a burden on the Bvi and his innocent family.

@ bystander.....the way VINO presented this story makes you want to pray for this fellow...had he been coloured or an island-man, we would have know where he from and whole 9-yards .....it pay to be white in todays BVI

If indeed he was being treated for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia then why do you want to punish him for a sickness he has no control over? This is the problem with these comments. If he was sane he wouldn't have done it! He needs monitoring and medicine to stabilize him. You are giving him the same amount of sympathy and care as if he was local or ex pat-- and that is nothing but judgement and punishment.

I would say the same thing for anyone in the same position. It is sad and I wish there were more facilities to help. Why is any attempt at a thoughtful post "Typical BS"? At least mine IS thoughtful.

"The court heard that the teen, on July 13, 2016, visited his father’s Lambert Estate’s home, where Mr Simon Grey was relaxing watching television when his accused son approached him about an incident that had occurred during his boyhood days". So we talking about several years here.

This boy is a psychopath and must be deported. Many American white supremacists come from the same dysfunctional background - this could explain why many of them want to become policemen.

Get him out of the BVI before a local is forced to act "by whatever means necessary" in self defense. Because if it comes to that the foreign news media will then say all blacks in the BVI are violent.

@ cat. Idiot...DeCastro along with all of our God Forsaken names are White names. Goodness gracious, know your history about how Blacks got their names from their slave masters, who named the slaves after them so other whites would know who they belonged to. We should all drop these European names and take on our African names that were stripped from us. Let's do it now!
