PIECES OF EIGHT, Tortola, VI- The work week has started for two persons with an auto accident. While the details of how the accident occurred remain unclear, a member of Our Team of Reporters was on his way to Road Town when he noticed traffic was held up around 10:45 A.M. today July 11, 2016.

It appeared to be a two-car accident, with one (PB 481) receiving damages to its front.

The accident occurred in the area between Sensus Gym in Sea Cows Bay and Pieces of Eight, where a new side walk and slipper drain were recently erected.

Police were on the scene carrying out their investigations.

It appears that persons involved were tight-lipped and even upset that our roving camera was taking photos.

In the past year, the Virgin Islands has been rocked by auto accidents. Many have been blamed on poor roads and others on careless driving.

You are so right. In fact there are 2 drains causing problems. The one in front of the entrance to the marina. The road has been banked up so much that when you pass over the rise, feels like the left side of the car could flip over. Everything has standards and I am sure this stretch of road does not meet any building standards. When you are responsible for the building of the road and its inspection.......oh well.

One more thing. Since when is 10:45 am rush hour?

About 7th major accident since the ridiculous sidewalk went up. The pavement has narrowed the road to only just two lanes and no where to go. Impossible to walk due to the works and now suicidal to cycle. Take a jackhammer to the 2ft sidewalk and widen the road.

NONSENSE! People need to take their %&*$£" time on the road. Not a thing wrong with that area and the road is the same width as it was before the sidewalk. That area has two sharp corners and people come both ways speeding as if it's a one-way street. Further it shows the blatant disregard of drivers speeding in a construction area.

We needs to bring in people who can design and build roads and sidewalks safely, there will be a really serious accident if these sidewalks and roads are not fixed properly. Who in their right mind approved these flawed and dangerous plans, its unbelievably inept.

The contractors here want to do everything, even work that they have no experience in just to line their pockets. They don't care that they are incapable of giving value for the millions of dollars they are pocketing. Those side walks are a disgrace .

If you all would take you all time driving on the road and stop driving like some dam jackasses there would not be an accident.

this accident had nothing to do with the road,it was another dumb scooter rider trying to commit suicide over taking around the corner so one driver had to stop suddenly to avoid hitting hit him thus the other vehicle ran into the other one.....THEY DONT LIKE LIFE...

It would appear that there's something wrong with the road in the Manual Reef area as to the number of accidents there. It also appears that a scooter rider had something to do with this as per the blogs. By the blogger-sphere the road design is a problem while others point to the deficiency of the drivers. Both could be correct. One has to be extremely careful heading pass manual reef as that hump on the left is quite dangerous. It is also clear that some drivers follow too closely behind and is in no position to stop should the person at the front took a hard brake. There is absolutely no reason to be driving within a car length on that road. in town or when there's a built-up of traffic is the only occasion when bumper to bumper is required. You either wait behind until ahead is clear enough to pass otherwise keep your distance. This kind of driving is tantamount to menacing of other drivers by those who act like they own the roadways.
