18 year-old Virgin Islander arrested in USVI with $200K jewellery
At the scene, officers gathered information from the community, Main Street businesses and security personnel, which helped them to locate Gordon on Back Street about an hour later.
After talking to local community members, St. Thomas police quickly arrested a man who made off with $200,000 in stolen jewellery after robbing a store on Main Street.
“This swift arrest is an excellent example of police and the community working together toward a quick and successful resolution to a problem,” Chief of Detectives Milton Petersen said in the release.
Officers also found a handgun on Gordon at the time of his arrest. Police said Gordon has been living on St. Thomas for approximately three months but could have had prior run-ins with the law in his native Tortola. VIPD detectives have contacted Tortola police to find out if Gordon has outstanding warrants, the release said.
Gordon was charged with first-degree robbery, and his bail was set at $75,000 at the time of his arrest. He has been remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
