DUFFS BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- Some 16 teams will clash in the 5th edition of the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed National Basketball League, which tips off on August 19, 2017 at the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff’s Bottom.

According to League Organisors, in a press release this evening, July 20, 2017, registration closed last week with some 16 teams registering to participate. There are 10 senior teams and 6 junior teams.

All games will be played on the weekends only – Friday to Sunday – and if necessary on Wednesdays.

Draft of Elite players- Wednesday July 26, 2017

Meanwhile, the popular Draft Exercise has been retained by the League Committee as all ‘draft players’ who participated last year were returned to the pool, except the draft pick of 2016 Championship Team Splash Brothers.

This means that the inspirational veteran player Steve E. Parillon, who is also the 2016 Championship Team Splash Brothers' MVP, will once again be spearheading his team's attack.

Mr Parillon confirmed to Virgin Islands News Online today, July 20, 2017 that he will be returning with Splash Brothers.

He also said that some of the players from his team have been participating in the “Town League” but the team members haven’t got together as yet, “but we will in the coming days and start preparing. So we will be ready.”

Splash Brothers were crowned Champions of the 4th year of the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball League last year and will be given championship rings on August 19, 2017 at the start of the League in an opening ceremony.

The Draft Pick exercise will take place on Wednesday July 26, 2017 at 6:00 PM at the Save the Seed Energy Centre's conference room on the 3rd floor adjacent to the Weight Room.

The Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball League 2017 Elite or ‘A’ players in the draft are: Ray D. Victor, Sean 'Chino' Woods, Cedric King, Nathaniel J. Malone, Travis A. Isaac, Killven M. Samuel, Phillip 'Roti man' Glasgow, JoVaughn N. Cameron, Juan R. Hatchet and Kameron G. Young.

Rules of Draft

A raffle pick will determine which team gets which number picked in the draft. Only drafted players can be traded; however, trading of players is up to the League Committee.

Teams with the lowest record/score in the 2016 Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed League will get numbers 1, 2, and 3 in order to have first preference to pick in the Draft System to display fairness.

Participating in the Draft System is not compulsory; however, it is highly recommended so that each team is allowed a fair and equal opportunity in the League.

Elite players for the Draft System should be well-disciplined, and cannot be suspended from any other local Basketball League.

The League

The Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball League was founded in 2013 by Third District Representative Honourable Julian Fraser RA, and founder of the Save the Seed Energy Centre Bishop John I. Cline.

The Basketball League is governed by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) rules, endorsed by the BVI Basketball Federation and has its own by-laws and governing Committee.

I must say kudos & big ups to how organized this league is and how they disseminate information to the public and players.

As for Town League I have to be begging my coach for the schedule. Good organization and this is a good league.

Hope they do not spoil it with fights and bad refereeing
