ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) has announced that the Virgin Islands has recorded 16 more COVID-19 cases, bringing the total confirmed in the Territory to 63, with 52 active cases.

Hon Malone made the announcement this morning September 4, 2020, during a COVID-19 update where he also moved to clear up some statements relating to a projected figure of 1,482 virus infections in the Territory.

“This figure represented a scientific projection of what could have happened over a period of time if we had not acted swiftly to quell the outbreak,” he said.

The statements had attracted criticisms from Opposition Leader, Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) who said the statement on the undocumented cases was irresponsible and would cause fear and panic.

New cases related to existing clusters

Meanwhile, Hon Malone said the 16 new cases, however, are related in some way to existing COVID-19 clusters in the Territory, linked to families, workplace and social settings.

He encouraged persons who may be experiencing symptoms of the virus to contact the COVID-19 hotline number on 852-7650 to schedule testing.

He said to date, there have been 10 recoveries inclusive of one COVID-19 death in the Territory, with two COVID-19  patents still in hospital being treated for underlying medical issues.

Aren't old, ill and fat people important?. We have to protect their lives too. If we look around, more than half of the population are overweight.

Of course their lives are important. But why are we keeping kids of school when in reality they don’t suffer from Covid.

We are not over-reacting with a steady number of rising cases and many are not practicing social distancing or wearing masks. Look at the pic in VINO’s article on today’s scooter accident.

WHO meetings are held in a controlled space/environment.

I am a BVI native living in NYC.. My people this virus is no joke. Y’all need to take this thing serious. We were locked down for a couple of months. It was hard but following the rules paid off. We are not out of the woods by no means but doing a lot better. We are down from thousands of deaths daily to now single digits..Wearing a mask and distancing is saving lives. “Mask it or Casket”.
“Six feet apart is better than six feet under.”

Tell it like it is sister Eve!
The sounds of ambulance sirens was constant in Brooklyn only months ago. People have been wearing masks and following the public health experts recommended protocols and the numbers have dropped accordingly.
People, take heed and take care of yourselves and your loved ones and neighbors. Wear a mask, properly, when in communal spaces indoors, and when social distancing isn’t possible outdoors.

More people are on the street than when it didn’t have curfew.

To Covidiots who do no have the sense to know COVID-19 IS EVERYONE’S BUSINESS, that people should call out businesses that are open that SHOULD NOT BE OPEN, any gatherings not within the minimum number limits and that are NOT WEARING MASKS.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/29/health/coronavirus-testing.html?ocid=uxbndlbing

We must be aware of how Covid affects the vast majority of people. The above NYT article states: "up to 90 percent of people testing positive carried barely any virus" This means that the vast majority of those testing positive are not likely to be contagious. Of those that test positive how many experience covid symptoms? Keeping those with mild symptoms bedridden in an air conditioned room (COVID thrives in cool, dry air) with no sunlight may actually hinder their immune system.

Additionally we must understand the role of comorbidities in covid deaths. According to the CDC: "For 6% of the deaths, COVID-19 was the only cause mentioned. For deaths with conditions or causes in addition to COVID-19, on average, there were 2.6 additional conditions or causes per death." This was the case for our one covid death, a Filipino woman with a serious underlying medical condition was denied admission to the hospital twice. Those without serious diseases (i.e. pneumonia, hypertensive, diabetes) your chance of dying from covid is less than .0004 percent. Just focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle and immune system and you will be fine.

Comorbidity includes diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and the capacity to read and to think logically.
An extremely high percentage of residents in the VI ,young and old,are comorbid.

He also mentioned phase two border opening and how it started september 1st. Lets just make it clear that phase 2 starts in October because no one will get all their stuff ready by the end of september part of the registration process start on the 1st of september the border is not open to expat. With all those running around getting documents i dont think any expat will ever get to come in in September. They should have inform companies from before to get all the relevants documents ready but no they wait until st of september to inform of all the required documents. And it takes 2 week to process the employers part maybe another 2 weeks for employee part. Another week or 2 for flight confirmation and then they have to inform the relevant channels ahead of time that they will be travelling. That sounds like ending of October. Nhi and SSB and Inland Revenue are closed are they not??

I’m saying the same thing. This lockdown is senseless because people are still on the road playing while some of us that need to go to work can’t. I find this ridiculous. Every time I trying to go forward I’m moving one step behind, life goes on with Covid. People have children to feed and was working pay check to pay check now it’s no check. What foolishness is this only stressing people out everyday. Covid cannot go anywhere without vaccine are we going to lockdown waiting on the vaccine, let us die trying. Some people have food while some don’t .

Keep the borders locked tight then its time for testing everyone. With curfew in place it could not be easier to do and the Government can at same time do a list of all people in BVI to check their NHI and work and immigration status and weed out those illegal immigrants to send them back home. Those people who imported the illegal immigrants should get massive fines which should be paid to those who have lost their jobs in the lockdown.

Our borders are open to national first then work permit holders, there were some that came in with the virus that was quarantined and went through the healing process and was released after test proving them covd19 free. Those people were never retested for a relapse in the virus that could have happened and went back into society. All of a sudden there's a spike in cases and pointing fingers but away from a cause that might be.
