ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A forward, a midfielder and a goalkeeper took top honours in the 5K race held on Saturday February 4, 2012 from the HLSCC Centre in the Enid Pickering Building to the Baths in Virgin Gorda, and back.

Meroin Dainty won the Men’s Divison in a time of 19:48 seconds just .10 seconds ahead of Old Madrid’s left midfielder, Emrol Amsterdam. Amsterdam ironically injured his foot while playing in his team’s 1-1 draw with the Ballstars later on Saturday.

Sugar Boyz keeper, Maxford Pipe, who also played in his teams win over the Panthers on Saturday afternoon, finished 3rd with a time of 20:34 seconds.

Kim Takeuchi snatched the women’s division in 23:52, with Samantha Hansen and Vivian Toro, second and third respectively with times of 28:08 and 28:21.

“What a great race it was,” said series coordinator Casey McNutt of the event that leads to the inaugural Dive BVI Half Marathon on May 12. “Our morning started off nice and cool with participants showing up even before the registration time. The morning was clear and beautiful and the smiles were all worth the early rise.” McNutt said participants ranged from 14 years to 72. Everyone had a great morning and eager to see each other again in our next race on February 25,” she said.
