OIL NUT BAY, Virgin Gorda, VI – Three German passengers on a privately owned yacht had to abandon their vessel for the night after it ran aground just off Oil Nut Bay, Virgin Gorda on Friday March 20, 2015.

Virgin Islands Search and Rescue (VISAR), when contacted about the incident by Virgin Islands News Online, was told that VISAR had received a call around 5:30pm from the United States Coast Guard indicating that there was a vessel aground just off Oil Nut Bay.

"It was not a charter boat; it was a family boat with three German passengers... It was not a rescue, it was a salvage, there were no injuries, no threat to lives, nothing, they just happened to end up on the rocks there," said VISAR Coordinator Mr John P. Apinall.

Mr Aspinall said the salvage crew worked until mid-night trying to free the vessel but were forced to abandon efforts. ‎"At midnight we give up the salvage attempts and took the people to a friend's location where they spent the rest of the night."

According to one of this news site’s correspondents on Virgin Gorda, two attempts to salvage the yacht were made the following morning before any success.

Dr Donedeal is going to diligently come up with a law against broken corals in the not too distant future just because of this.
