DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI - Former Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Mark H. Vanterpool (R4) said he has no clue about the over $1.5M unpaid debt left mostly at the Works Ministry by the former National Democratic Party (NDP) government.

Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) at Monday’s June 22, 2020, HoA sitting had said the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government has discovered some $1.5M of unpaid bills to vendors owed mostly at the Works Ministry.

"We have found those bills and venders have been calling us and we couldn't understand why because most of them either didn't have a purchase order, they were just sent to work in a different area," Hon Fahie said.

He said the majority of the debts were inherited at the Ministry of Works which was led by Hon Vanterpool; however, when a reporter from VINO reached out to the legislator for a comment, no response was received up to publication time.

‘I wish I wasn’t called a politician’ – Hon Vanterpool

Now, according to Hon Vanderpool at yesterday's June 23, 2020, Sitting of the House; while he received VINO’s inquiry, he opted not to responded because he was not aware of the issue, saying politics has a stigma attached to it.

“I couldn’t answer the gentleman because I didn’t have a clue what he [reporter] was talking about, up to now I don’t have a clue… and I’m sure we will learn more about it as the Premier will expound about it, and I’ll like to learn more about it,” he said.

Premier Fahie has since indicated that a team is now analysing the debts and promised that a full report on the unpaid amounts will come before the House, noting that those who are owed must be paid for their labour.

Something is up. All of a sudden Mark is up and down praising the VIP. Sounds like he is trying to sweet them up so this 1.5 mil outstanding does not come to light. NDP wasn’t easy. They did a lot of dirt and will get away with it all.

I doubt it. Politicians get away with garbage all the time. Look at the USA. Flynn pled guilty TWICE!! The Trump appointed judges overturned his conviction. They didn't pardon him the overturned his verdict although he pled guilty TWICE!! Rules are for the people who are not in charge.

Government is a continuing business. All outstanding debts are not cleared to zero on the day before election. When this government tenure is up this is going to continue and on and on. What is the problem. People, we need to stop alot of the political rubbish and run this country. To much tit for tat at all levels while suffering is going on.

Hahaha...it appears that the NDP Government did not have a clue as to where the $$$$ were.

No clue about the $$$$ for BVI Airways
No clue about the Pier Park project $$$$$$
No clue about 1.5m unpaid debt.

How can you "run" a country being so CLUELESS?

Hon Mark ‘Action Man’ Vanterpool (R4), former MCW, ‘I wish I wasn’t called a politician’ – Hon Vanterpoo.’ Stop it. You have been in politics with both VIP and NDP for decades so stop nonsense buh you wish you were not call a politician. You enjoyed the power, status and influence that came with holding politician office; if you hold a political office, you are a politician. You may be in the sunset of your active political career but geez som bred. By the way, shouldn’t a MCW know what services were procured and if vendors paid or not paid? True, a former MCW may not know what bills are still unpaid after leaving office. A more coherent answer could have been given.
