Guyana: Man allegedly kills father, attempts to bury body

GEORGETOWN, Guyana- (Demerara Waves) Residents and police were up to Wednesday evening scouring the community of Manawarin in the Region One area for a 26-year old man who is suspected to have brutally killed his father after a wake night argument on Monday night.

Dead is Gilbert Adams, 66, a farmer from the riverain community. Police later said in a statement that the body of Adams of Barakawu, North West District was found at his residence at about  8 A.M. Wednesday with marks of violence.

According to reports, Adams and his son, whose name was given only as "Benny" attended a wake in the village on Monday night and some time during the proceedings an argument developed .

Reports are that the argument continued at the family's home and during the melee the young man picked up a piece of wood and started to hit his father about the body. The man was dealt several severe lashes to the heat and was left to die by his son.

Persons in the area noted that the man then attempted to bury his father's body in a nearby plot of land but his actions were thwarted by a group of boys who were passing at the time. He soon escaped and the matter was later reported to the police at Moruca.

Adams body was taken to the Santa Rosa Hospital mortuary in the Moruca Sub-Region and residents stated that it was one of the most gruesome acts recorded there in recent history.
