3rd District party did not affect Triple Crown- Lesmore Smith

All’s well that ends well at Fraser’s party!

SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI - The big hullabaloo over whether 3rd District representative Hon. Julian Fraser’s staging of a party at Ellis Thomas Downs was going to affect preparation for the Triple Crown races yesterday Sunday January 15, 2012, petered out into naught as there were reportedly no complaints over the condition of the grandstand and its surroundings.

According to President of the Virgin Islands Horse Owners’ Association, Lesmore Smith, no complaints were made to him and as far as he knows there were no problems.

Virgin Islands News Online also spoke to a couple of vendors at the races yesterday and they indicated that the venue was in a state of readiness and they were not affected in any way by the staging of the holiday party the night before.

“Everything was in order, there wasn’t any problem at all and everything went well. When I came everything was clean and I don’t think other vendors had any problems either," one vendor said.

This news entity also spoke to member of the 3rd District Committee, Kishmet Daniels, who said that the committee ensured that the Downs was returned to a state of cleanliness for the Triple Crown by going beyond the call of duty to remove all garbage that would have been accumulated at the party in order to avoid any complaints and confusion the following day.

Critics of the Hon. Fraser's party venue had argued that the event would affect the vendors from setting up their businesses early and that the music would also affect the horses in that they would think it was race day. However, according to horse owners and handlers, nothing of the sort happened.

Hon. Fraser had previously indicated to Virgin Islands News Online that he had received a call on Friday January 6 from the Ministry of Education and Culture asking him whether he could have changed the venue for his party since they were going to have the Triple Crown the following day.

The 3rd District representative said he did not agree to change the event since the party was planned a long time ago and his event along with cleaning up after would be completed well in advance for the preparation to begin for the races.

Regarding concerns that vendors would have want to store their items overnight in the stand for the races the following day, Hon. Fraser had said that was never done before and the vendors have always come in and set up on the day of the races.

I think cutting in all spenditure, this parties will be a good way to safe some money and divert it in something more stable visible, durable. In some instance the Representative has done nothing of impact in any particular district but have a christmas party or any other occation party and invest $10,000 for belly, can see that. We have to stop it
